Which mattress? (merged threads)

This thread has been great but I never knew that buying a new mattress and bed would be so difficult. I listened to the words of wisdom from owners and sellers but in the end decided to miss out the middle man and purchase direct from a manufacturer. I therefore bought a bed from Europa Beds an independent family based company based in Yorkshire who have been going for over 28-years.
I bought the Muse bed with the Rapture mattress (1200 springs, 2” memory foam) which I and more importantly my wife are thrilled with. Hopefully I will not have to go through this bed/mattress buying process for another ten years!0 -
Update:
Well it's been 5 nights now and all I can say is that we're thrilled with our new Madrid mattress! After a few days acclimatising, both of us are waking up feeling much brighter and we can only put this down to imrpoved comfort and quality of sleep. Perhaps we just didn't realise how much our old mattress was affecting us...I know I used to shift around a hell of a lot and guess each time I did this I was disturbing both of us. Now, not only is any shifting much better isolated and virtually silent, we're so much more comfortable we evidently don't need to keep moving about. Our days of annoying pins and needles seem to be over forever...... :j
We do still have some remaining reservations about how the mattress will feel in the warmer weather as we sleep in a converted loft room (which is always on the warm side in summer) but time will tell. There's certainly no evidence of us sinking into the foam to an undue degree so that's very reassuring.
Now the smell of the foam has gone completely and we've got used to the spring/foam combination I can honestly say it was the best £474 I've ever spent so many thanks to the various contributors here who've helped us, especially Tim Deegan and Bedlum Beds! :T :T :T :T
So it's a great big thumbs up for us!!!0 -
Can't get hold of Tim, maybe he's snowed off and his phone diverts.
After turning the mattress it's much better, I think there's defect on one side as the other side is ten times better.0 -
I'm still thinking of buying a mattress from this ebayer

and would appreciate any thoughts but I also have a new query...
I have just measured my existing mattress and it is 7" deep, these one are 10", will the sheets still fit? Could someone with a 10" mattress let me know - THANKS0 -

Are you talking about fitted sheets or flat sheets?
I think it depends on the make/quality of the sheets.
I've had fitted sheets that barely fitted my Dunlopillo mattress (probably about 7" like yours) but I've also got fitted sheets that are generously sized even on a much deeper pocket sprung/memory foam mattress.
If you're talking about flat sheets, again it depends. I've some Dorma sheets that are very generous but some cheaper ones that aren't as big.0 -
I have a matress topper I bought last week, I love it but it keeps moving !
Every morning it has crept across the martress by about 3 inches and is hanging over one side.
I have a normal matress, matress cover, toppper then fitted sheet.
Any suggestions pleasexxxdxxx

What a coincidence - my existing mattress is also a Dunlopillo, a Firmrest which I gues is about 20 years old and past its best. I was horrified by the cost of a new Dunlopillo + I have read (on this thread I think) that the quality is not as good as it was. I was therefore thinkng of getting a cheap one off the ebay site and seeing how it is. If it awful I can put it on the spare bed which really needs a new mattress too:rotfl: I guess I'll have to measure my sheets now too - yes I have an exciting w/e planned!0 -
Fitted sheets usually come in two mattress depth ranges (I'm sure someone will correct me if there are more). The first size is usually for mattresses up to 9" deep, and the second size are for mattresses up to 14". Make sure you check before you buy.0

Hi.. I am been reading this thread for some time and appreciate the efforts Tim is putting..however i am bit confused and unable to make a decision. I am looking for a Pocket sprung Memory foam mattress which is reasonable.
I would appreciate if someone can review and let me know their comments
