Is a pocket sprung mattress ok for this with the slats the way they are? or as above will I also need some board before I put the mattress down?
Anyone else got a good mattress combo for this bed?
Tim,
I have actually now gone and bought the sealy posturepedic ultra memory support mattress as i slept really well at a friends house who had this mattress. Will i need hard/peg board on my new bed under the sealy mattress or will it be ok as it is? Apparantly it has more springs per mattress than a conventional open coil mattress. http://www.sealy.co.uk/memorysupport.html
Many thanks in advance.0 -
Tim could do with your advice on the following if you would be so kind
We have just bought this mattres & bed http://www.mattressman.co.uk/simmons/divans/divans/king_size/P3039S0L/memory_ortho.aspx
The mattress is very comfortable but we have issues with the base & are not very happy with the company, the bed was delivered yesterday (Mon) first problem was they delivered a double headboard instead of the king size that we ordered, However, upon unwrapping the mattress it was nothing like the one displayed in the mattressman showroom & which we thought we had ordered, although it does state "simmons ortho memory" so i presume the design has been updated?
The main issue we have is with the base provided with the mattress, as shown in the link, it is stated as being a luxury divan made by Snuggle Beds, upon unwrapping & attempting assembly we found the castors impossible to insert into the holes on one of the base units, (the first base they fitted ok) we were also unable to fix the headboard bolts or even locate the headboard holes, and also it was missing a metal joining clip for the bases to be joined together, the base is very poor qaulity just a frame with hardboard top and loose material over it, we were so dissapointed we decided to use our old base as it was far superior, we didnt pay much attention to the base as it looked ok in the showroom however we did expect something of better quality.
We rang the company and left a message asking them to call back, they never! so we rang them & told them we were unhappy with the base & wanted to return it for a refund, they refused stating they only would refund if it was faulty, we told them we were unable to join the two bases together, also unable to fix the headboard into the base, and that we are extemely dissapointed with the build quality, they simply are not intrested, so we have a divan base put back in the wrapper that we cant & wont use.
Do we have any rights? I would have thought as we were unhappy with the quality and also the problems with the bed we would be entitled to a refund?0 -

You shoudn't need peg board as it is open coil sprung.0 -

For the mattress, contact Simmons and ask them if they have changed the design, or if you have a different model to the one advertised:

As for the base, the fact that you managed to insert the castors in one base, but not the other, sounds like the base is faulty. So they should accept a return. If they are difficult about it then mention trading standards. At the very minimum they should send you a new half base and the linking bars.
Some manufacturers don't put holes in the fabric where the headboard bolt inserts are. This is so that you can fit the headboard at either end, and poke the holes through yourself. You should be able find the upright timbers then run your fingers over the fabric to find the holes.
Divan bases are constructed from a wooden frame with a hardboard top, and then covered with fabric. Then if drawers are required these obviously fit into the frame. So even if you were to change to another divan base, then you would get the same. This is why the divan base is usually far cheaper than the mattress.0 -
Hi people, Ive been reading for a while, Id like to ask Tim a quick question.
I have a reasonable quality open spring divan, the mattress is shot but the bed (its sprung edge) seems fine. Would it be OK to buy a pocket spring mattress and re-use the open spring bed?I am not a cat (But my friend is)0 -
Has anyone had any experience of this ebayer
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Sleep-Assured-memory-foam-mattress
They have excellent feed back and the mattress seem really cheap and sound like good spec...unless of course you know differently!

As long as the base is fine then there should be no problem at all.
Try running your hand over the surface to see ig there are any obviousl defects.0
