    Hello,
Me again. I rang the people I got the bed from to see if there was anything they could do about changing the mattress but they said they could only change it if it hadn't been opened, which unfortunately ours had. The bloke said most people are happy with that mattress and that people just have different opinions of firmness. It's unlikely to be faulty apparently as they are mass produced. As a goodwill gesture they said they'd give me a 20% discount and free delivery on what he called a very firm 'feels like sleeping on the floor' mattress, which is this one:

http://www.qualitydiscountfurniture.co.uk/Super-Orthopaedic-Mattress-26-3ft-4ft-46-5ft-p-549 so I can have it for £135.

Does this sound like a reasonable price? I have accepted that either way I have to buy a new one so might as well get another one from them if I get a 20% discount (unless they are really overpriced/rubbish mattresses anyway). And I will make sure I don't unwrap it this time until I've tried it!

Try bringing trading standards up in the conversation. From what you have said you were miss sold the mattress.
  • Thanks,
I know it's cheap, but really is all we can afford at the moment and we do need another mattress as soon as possible as the one we've got now is so uncomfortable :(

I've just seen this on the argos website though which might be a better option: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6601881/c_1/2%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+and+furniture%7C10197552/c_2/3%7Ccat_10197552%7CMattresses%7C10197694.htm?Price+Cut=1 We've got a single airsprung bed in the spare room and I really like the mattress on that but not sure if it's the same spec or anything! Do you think this one would be firm?

If you go for a cheap mattress you will most likely just be uncomfortable again.

You need to get the original supplier to either refund the original mattress or replace it with a suitable one.

After numerous MSE recommendations for La Romantica (do a thread search), Ive just done some research on their equivelent, and you can get a FIRM Orthopeadic Double mattress for around £110. I wont post any links (against forum rules!) but maybe Google them? Get your money back on the miss-sold one, via Paypal if you have to, and then it's only a few more quid to get a known quality version.

  • What a brilliant and informative thread. I have a slight dilemma I am hoping someone can help me out with. I have a king size Hypnos Sleepcare Ortho bed which for various reasons I am about to try and get my money back. I am pretty confident I will because this is the third faulty mattress! We love the firmness of the bed but werent too happy with the amount of settlement of the top fibres. Can anyone recommend a bed that is as firm as the one mentioned and one that will obviously last a while. Thanks

If its from House of Fraser and £699 for the mattress only you'll be laughing! We could find you something with enough change for a few fish suppers ;) :rotfl:

  • Well it was from HoF. How did you know that? We bought the complete 4 draw divan and mattress, which cost us approx £1150. We would be looking for something that is as firm as the one we have as for specs, all I can say is its kingsize and firm.

Would you want a new divan set too then? Or just replacing the mattress?

  • They were bought together so I will be trying to get a complete refund.
