My son who is very ill bought a body form mattress in the spring and he thinks it is great, it did take a couple of days to get used to it, but he loves it. Look at

Thanks for this great thread - I've been feeling decidedly lost looking to replace our bed/mattress.
I am still not entirely sure what is best.
My GF and I currently sleep on a Kingsize Moonraker Divan and Orthopedic Mattress (http://www.moonrakerbeds.com/) - this bed was really good for the first 18 months or so, then had to have the mattress and half the base replaced under warranty as it 'sank'. The replacement was ok again for about 18 months but the whole mattress is now lumpy and uncomfortable. The bed is quite creeky and generally a uncomfortable experience.
I did look into Moonraker at the time of purchase as I'd not heard of them and they seemed to have pretty good reviews. But given the bed/mattress was around £600 I've not been that impressed.
My GF and I are both quite large so I'm conscious that our next bed purchase should be 'load bearing' and she has become certain that memory foam is the way to go.
We are looking for a king size, I personally prefer to be higher off the ground than normal wooden bed frames allow, and our budget is around £500-650 depending on what we need to spend...
Any tips much appreciated,
Thanks,

Hi, first time on here so hope I'm doing it correctly. I would like to ask Tim Deegan what type of single mattress he would recommend for a metal slatted base. The mattress is for an 11 year old. She has now outgrown the one that came with it. From what I can make out you recommend a pocket sprung, but I think the metal struts are too far apart for that. or maybe I could put a board across the slats. AAGGH its all too much.
Many thanks forany help0 -
Ruthie, a decent coil sprung mattress should be fine for your daughter, and will be reasonably priced too. No need to worry about the slats with that version too, so just need to find a decent quality manufacturer.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

Hope someone can give us some advice.
I weigh around 15 stone and get lower back pain.
My wife gets occasional back ache and prefers a reasonably firm mattress.
We need a new bed and have looked at a Staples "Backcare Silver 1000 8" pocket sprung that maybe suitable.
However, the mattress is described as "easycare, non turn"
Is it better to have a mattress that can be turned?
We would like advice on whether this is a good bed and also would welcome
opinions and recommendations on alternatives we could consider.
Thanks for any help.

Yes it is better to get a two sided mattress as it will last far longer.
I can't recommend anything on here I'm afraid, but you get more for your money with smaller independent manufacturers.0 -

What he didn't mention was to go for a smaller independent manufacturer, as you will get more for your money.
You will also find cheaper on line than you will in the shops (even in the sales).0 -
My M&D are wanting an ottoman storage bed that lifts from the head end - they are both quite large people - 15 stones+ and they are unsure if this type of bed will be suitable. They would buy one with a sprung slatted base and they are thinking of getting a double sided pocket sprung mattress with layer of memory foam on both sides...any help/suggestions appreciated.MARRIED MR E - 22nd Dec 2010 - technically now sazzye!:j

I've never seen an ottoman bed that lifts at the head end. They normally ift at the foot end or the side.
Most sprung slats are within 3 inches of each other. So a 2 sided pocket sprung/memory foam mattress should be fine.0
