For me, Ikea have too many fingers in too many pies to be able to produce quality beds. The Charlotte bed is one I considered after a few recommendations myself so would easily recommend it myself over the Ikea version.
What gap do the slats have between them? More than 2/3" and you'll need to add some slats or put some peg board down to stop the pocket springs pushing through...:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. I'm considering the La Romantica Madrid double mattress (to replace current mattress on existing divan) but have also seen the following:

I realise they are not double sided like the Madrid but the price differentials makes them appealling.
What do you think of these and do you think the Madrid is sufficiently superior to these to warrant the additional cost?

ianI would say that on the recommendation of others the Madrid has to be worth it, as they have all come back to promote it!

ruthie1horse wrote: »Hi Tim, thank you for your response. Have actually bought from a local chap who will take the old mattress away. I bought a Dorlux Bronze Ribbon for £144. I see I could have got for about £120 online but would have had to dispose of the old mattress. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this one is not one that makes you groan and say Oh No!
Thanks for your advice

Even at £120 the Dorlux Bronze Ribbon appears to be very over priced for what is a middle of the range open coil sprung mattress. It is also non turn which should make it even cheaper.
My other concern would be that you may have problems if the mattress develops a fault as it appears that Dorlus may be going bust (again).0 -

Does anyone know os anywhere in or near kent (maybe essex) that I could try out a La Romantica mattress? I like the idea of a double sided memory foam with pocket springs.0

Hopefully she has a returns option with the company in question then

They shouldn't actually collect old mattresses unless they use a different vehicle to do this. This is down to health and safety laws. If you think about it, you wouldn't be very happy if a van turned up with your new mattress. They opened the back, and you saw your new mattress right next to an old grotty stained mattress that was infested.
Local councils will take away old mattresses. Some charge, and some do it for free.
I doubt that the mattress has been delivered yet. So she could cancel.0 -
The Madrid has been bought and recommended by MANY patrons of MSE, try doing a forum search? Joseph have been mentioned before with little good to say, Caress I've not heard of and the third link doesnt work for me

Hello,
Me again. I rang the people I got the bed from to see if there was anything they could do about changing the mattress but they said they could only change it if it hadn't been opened, which unfortunately ours had. The bloke said most people are happy with that mattress and that people just have different opinions of firmness. It's unlikely to be faulty apparently as they are mass produced. As a goodwill gesture they said they'd give me a 20% discount and free delivery on what he called a very firm 'feels like sleeping on the floor' mattress, which is this one:
http://www.qualitydiscountfurniture.co.uk/Super-Orthopaedic-Mattress-26-3ft-4ft-46-5ft-p-549 so I can have it for £135.
Does this sound like a reasonable price? I have accepted that either way I have to buy a new one so might as well get another one from them if I get a 20% discount (unless they are really overpriced/rubbish mattresses anyway). And I will make sure I don't unwrap it this time until I've tried it!0 -
If they can offer 20% discount AND free delivery and still make money on £135 i'd say it was a poor mattress! There's no info in the link as to whether it's turnable etc... I'd steer clear and just ask for money back or another option. If you want good support you ideally need to buy a pocket sprung mattress too, that one is open coil, which may be firm but not as supportive as pocket.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things.
