Hello all, I had a discouraging time trying out matresses today. Went to MFI and found one we liked the feel of. It was a Silent Night miracoil latex (Rose). Absolutely no product information at all at MFI and it's obviously one that is made for them by Silent Night as there is no Rose model on their website. It is on the MFI website but no product info or even picture. The price was £299 (apparently reduced from £785:rotfl: )

Then went onto Benson Beds and found another one we liked the feel of - these people gave much more product info - we found another one we quite liked. Their Fiji model by Savoy was fully sprung PVC, two sided, open coil with a 325 spring count and only cost £99.99.

At least with the Fiji we can look for comparable online products but the Rose is a completely unknown quantity. MFI seems to have the attitude of try our bed for 10 mins and if you like it, buy it.

I've decided to go with the Romantica matress - Adora :)

Oh dear, I go away for a couple of days and there are loads of questions for me:confused:

I don't really know much about JL's mattresses except for the fact that they do tend to be priced a little high, but then their quality should be ok. The model you have bought appears to be their entry level pocket sprung mattress, so all in all you could have done far worse.

    Thank you Tim

    What is "entry level" please?

By entry level I mean their lowest spec pocket sprung mattress. But JL don't sell rubbish, so I can't see it being a problem.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but from what you have said I assume that your mattress was memory foam on top of reflex foam (rather than springs)?

    Correct
    Tim_Deegan wrote: »
Also how deep was the memory foam?

    Sorry, I'm not sure

Don't be put off memory foam. There are a few things that you should take into account when buying a memory foam mattress if you don't want to be too hot in bed.

I've been so uncomfortably warm with this mattress, I'd be very afraid to buy another. But I'd love to hear your views, or link me to a thread to save you repeating yourself.

Its been so long since I've had a good nights sleep, I'm even considering going for two single beds, which mattress would you recommend for about 200 - 250GBP per single mattress or for a double bed about 300 - 400GBP.

    Thanks again

    Cheers

Well if you really have been put off memory foam, then you would be better off going for pocket sprung only. You should have no problem finding good quality ones for well within your price range.

Rest assured I will be not be using Rest Assured then! Joseph seem 'cheaper' and dont want to compromise too much, although our budget may determine that for us, but will seek out maybe KoseeSleep or Restus then, thanks...AGAIN! :)

This is my first post on the forum - I think it's commendable the amount of effort Tim puts in to answering these questions. I know that you've been indundated with questions Tim, but could you comment on the manufacturer 'Sweet Dreams'? My local shop (www.congdons.co.uk) sells this brand of pocket sprung mattresses, and though they also sell the Kozeesleep brand that I've seen recommended on here, their starting price is £395 for the duchess, which is just out of my budget of £200-265.

From what I can gather Sweet Dreams seem to be at the lower quality end of the market, so I don't actually know much about them.

As for Kozeesleep. There used to be two Kozeesleep factories, one in Birmingham, and one in West Yorkshire. The one in West Yorkshire was the original, but the relatives of the owners set up the second factory. Then the two sides of the family fell out leaving two different companies with the same name. So the one in Birmingham is now known as Kozee Sleep instead of Kozeesleep. However many of the models still continue to be made to the same spec by both companies. It appears that Congdons use Kozee Sleep.

I know that both companies still make the Duchess (which can be found on line for far less than the £395 that Congdons quoted), but I'm not sure if they do the Pocketmaster which can be found for around the £250 mark on line.

    Hi,

We bought a memory foam mattress really cheaply off ebay last week and unfortunatley we hate it! I don't think we are going to have any choice but to replace it so we went and had a look round our local bed shop on friday and have narrowed our choice down to the following two mattresses:

    http://www.mattressman.co.uk/myers/mattresses/mattresses/all/P660S1407/champagne_luxury.aspx

    http://www.mynextmattress.co.uk/dynamic/viewitem.php?item=SH00007

Does anyone have any advice on which would be best to go for? They felt really similar in the shop but the Myers seems much more readily available online. I just want to check i'm not making a mistake by going for the Myers when the Shakespeare one is pocket sprung and I believe this is supposed to be better isn't it? I just don't want to get ripped off again after we already wasted £140 on ebay! Any advice would be appreciated.

Ouch :( it's not funny wasting money like that.

It depends what you want from your mattress. From a quality viewpoint, the Shakespeare looks better and the pocket sprung prings will stop any 'roll-together' and feel a bit more supportive.

What's the criteria for your choice?
