If it is definately only 9" then you can return it at the sellers cost because it isn't as advertised. e-mail the supplier and give them 1 week to respond. If they don't then start a dispute.

Does it have a Highland label on it?

The seller actually has 21 negative and 43 neutrals over the last 12 months.....allways read the negatives.

It has a Highland label on the mattress cover but i'm not sure about underneath, i haven't zipped the cover all the way off, i will have a look though.

I've sent the seller an email so i'll have to wait and see if he replies...
  • Tim,

I have read this complete thread and been put off SilentNight lol...

    Very nearly ordered this...

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6657990/c_1/1%7Ccat_10197552%7CMattresses%7C10197694/c_2/2%7Ccat_10197694%7CKingsize+mattresses%7C10197700/Trail/searchtext%3EMATTRESS.htm

However after reading all the comments about SilentNight it now all makes sense, we had one prior to our current one and that lasted about 2 years before the springs went all noisy, now our current SilentNight didnt even get past a year before one side pretty much collapsed, now we are looking for something that is very comfortable and will last.

Both myself and my wife suffer mild back problems, the mattress would be placed on a slatted base which are around or less than 3" apart, this is on a wooden bed frame, however as the frame was originally for a double and I want a King size we will need to either raise the slat board up by about an inch, or replace totally, questions are...

    1. If I replace the slat board (which is springy) with say 2x2 wood parted about 2 inches would this be ok?

    2. You mention the La Romantics Madrid, have had a look and can find it for £419, is it anygood and do u think it will work for us? Also do u know where I can get it cheaper?

    Regards

    Wayne

    Hi Wayne.

I'm not quite sure what you mean in question 1:confused:
  • Hi Tim,

Basically its a wooden bed frame, the slats board drops into this frame and they flex, im thinking of chucking that and just using normal 2x2 timber to create my own slats for the the mattress to rest on.

It depends on the type of mattress you want to put on the slats:
    • For an open coil sprung mattress then gaps of up to 5" are acceptable.
    • For pocket sprung only mattresses you can't have a gap of more than 1"
    • For two sided pocket sprung /memory foam mattresses you can go up to 3".
If you want to use 2x2 instead of slats then I can't see a problem as long as the edges aren't sharp.

Our last one was pocket sprung, and as the slats are around 3" apart that would explain why it imploded within a year lol

That was probably more likely to be because it was a Silentnight.

Can someone please please narrow down the selection of mattress's, I spent most of yesterday reading throught page after page of B/S advertising.

There has to be a few mattress's that are out on their own as regards quality and price? If you've found one please let me know, before I crack up, I'm not enjoying all this research.

    Thanks again

    Cheers

Interesting thread. Beds must be high on everyone's 'need to know about' lists just now cos there's a heck of a high percentage of new peeps looking for info on this particular thread alone.

I'm rubbish at maths but I wonder what the stats are for that compared to other product threads? (Ones that are not for financial advice I mean.)

Shame there was no 'one size fits all' option. Everyone's problems would be solved then. :D

I hate my bed and I intend to spend a full day testing in every bed showroom I can find, the next time I buy. :rotfl:

Good luck to all of you in your search for the perfect night's rest.
