Right, so now trying to find cheaper good quality firm mattress, how about these
http://www.mattressnextday.co.uk/mattress/421/Prestige-Ortho-Hypo-Allergenic
http://www.mattressnextday.co.uk/mattress/167/Rome-SupaOrtho-10
http://www.mattressnextday.co.uk/mattress/166/Dorlux-Ortho-Luxury-600
Any advice would be appreciated.
The first one I know for a fact (by speaking to Kozeesleep the other day) has been made specially for mattressnextday, but is actually made to quite a low spec.
The second one is covered in stitchbond which usually indicates a budget mattress.
The third one seems the best out of the three, but I'd ask them how the managed to get double the normal number of springs in. Normally this is don't by having two layers of springs, but ad 9" it doesn't seem deep enough. If you compare it to the Jubilee by Kozeesleep, it has two layers of springs, and is 12" deep.0 -
We needed a mattress for the spare room in a hurry, we have company coming soon. The advice from Tim helped me, I would not even look at a non turn mattress, a pillow top or a tempur. I could not find a pocket sprung with memory foam on both sides so we opted for just pocket sprung. It will be delivered in a week which we urgently needed.
I know the name of Tim's company and I would have been happy to buy from him if I had been able to try out the mattressess. But he is so far away.
We bought a John Lewis own make, pocket sprung and it is turnable. We gave it a good testing out in the shop, I hope we will be happy with it. It won't get used very often. It cost £295. It is called JL Natural Pocket 1 Mattress 135.
Any comments from Tim would be most welcome.
Oh dear, I go away for a couple of days and there are loads of questions for me
I don't really know much about JL's mattresses except for the fact that they do tend to be priced a little high, but then their quality should be ok. The model you have bought appears to be their entry level pocket sprung mattress, so all in all you could have done far worse.0 -
I purchased a memory foam mattress a few years back and it has caused me no end of sleepless nights. Its too warm, I tend to get hotter and hotter while I sleep so I'm continually on the move trying to keep cool and as a result I'm never well rested.
I intend to buy a new traditional pocket sprung mattress to replace the above before my health gets any worse.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but from what you have said I assume that your mattress was memory foam on top of reflex foam (rather than springs)?
Also how deep was the memory foam?
Don't be put off memory foam. There are a few things that you should take into account when buying a memory foam mattress if you don't want to be too hot in bed.0 -
I think Tim will be here with an answer soon, but I remember him saying on another post that if you want memory foam, have it on top of a pocket sprung mattress, then the air can circulate and you won't be so hot, but with a memory foam only bed, there is nowhere for the air to circulate.
Hope I am right here, if not, I am sure Tim will correct me.
Yes you are right. Also you need to make sure that the memory foam is between 2" and 2.5" deep.0 -

Ok, officially annoyed at Silentnight now!
Emailed them because I found out they charge the customer 40% plus delivery as a 'warrenty'. 40% of the £249.99 we paid is £100 and they gave me a link to the Argos price at £329.99, so i offered to collect it and save the extortionate delivery charge.
Responce?
'We charge 40% of the current price, not the price you paid, and you cannot collect the item as it's Silentnights warehouse and they only deliver, plus it's in Lancashire (so not anywhere near me anyway).'
The product is faulty, yet they will only supply me a new one if I pay a percentage of the current prices and their ridiculous delivery charge which they make money on too?! They win either way, and it's their policy to do this for warrenty so I have no comeback? Wish I knew that to start with
They will get NO more business from me, and I will tell everyone that asks Silentnight are a rip-off, their products are poor and customer service next to useless!
The only ones sleeping easy are the employees and shareholders...on a bed of £50 notes, my hard earned money!
Unfortunately this is probably why they aren't concerned that their reliability is so bad. Like you say they are in a win win situation.0 -
Tim_Deegan wrote: »Apart from the brand, the other thing wrong with that mattress is the fact that it is a pillow top. Depending on the type of fillings they can end up creating a hollow where you sleep after a while. Also it makes the mattress non turn, which means that the springs won't last as long.
Thanks Tim, reason I was looking at this was for the famed no roll together, being a big lad! (6"3 and 19 stone) it comes in quite handy especially working shifts, the missus doesnt want to be flopping round the bed when Im getting in and out.
So in your professional opinion what type of matress would you advise?
I say type as I know you cant advise of a particular brand due to being percieved as advertising, from your other posts I think you recommend a pocket sprung, turnable matress with foam layer am I right?
If so what would a reasonable price be for a king size divan with this type of matress?
I for one really appreciate all the help and advice you've gave to those that havent got a clue on what to look for in a new bed/matress0 -

Hi.
As you can see from many other posts, it's the spring system in the mattress you were looking at that is very unreliable.
I'd say that if you want a mattress with no roll together, and as you say you are quite large, then it is essential that you get a pocket sprung mattress that you can turn in order to prolong the life of the springs.
You would be looking at a starting price of around £400 including delivery.0
