Thanks Tim. All I know is it is 1400 pocket sprung with latex, polyester stuffed pillow top and non turnable.

If it's pillow top then forget it.

You really need to do a search in the forums for both Argos and Silentnight.

Sorry, but I have allways advised to avoid pillow top mattresses for two reasons:
    1. The pillow top fillings tend to move about eventually creating hollows where you sleep.
    2. The pillow top makes it a non turn mattress which won't last as long (especially with quite a high spring count).

    Taken on board, many thanks.

Now, I've not gone back yet but I found one without the pillow top. Guy at store will probably offer this on interest free too, well it IS £100 dearer!!

Besides anything Relyon is a good make isn't it? I know I'll probably be paying over the odds but I have to put a price on the interest free option, the fact I can get it in a week and the fact that the make is good

Is there any reason why you are going for latex?

What you have to consider is which is the best option. Do you pay stupid money to get interest free credit, or do you get a bed for half the price that isn't on interest free credit????
  • No reason for latex really. I've sat on it and liked it. Now I know that has no bearing on actually LIVING with it but...............

Thanks to this thread I'm now aware of all the good makes and want to make an informed decision. I realise I'll need to pay more to get it asap (son currently sleeping on a very good sofa bed from The Pier but it's starting to sag due to it's constant use.) and the interest free credit part helps with being able to go more expensive instead of within budget.

I know I shouldn't but I might go to Dreams today. They sell Millbrook and Myers don't they? I know completely what to steer clear of now thanks to you. Tim, could you not just come up to Glasgow and do it for me :p

If I came up to Glasgow to do it for you then I wouldn't go anywhere near Dreams or any other big chain store. I also wouldn't buy any of the well known brands. If you don't want to buy on line then I'd go to an independent shop and buy a bed from an independent manufacturer.

I was just wondering why you think you you have to pay more to get a quick delivery?
  • A quick delivery is the second thing only to good quality, price being third. Before being offered the interest free yesterday I had a smaller budget and was going for a bed for Jack and a mattress for us.

I've tried you too but you can't get up here for 3 weeks so that's out too. One of the other online companies (can't remember now, I've seen so many) and they were quoting 3-5 weeks delivery. If nobody's buying (per the telly reports), where's all the stuff?

There must be independent stores in Glasgow who hold stock.

Believe me people are still buying beds.
  • You see, I have a husband who gets impatient with my unbelievable indecisiveness (he's currently calling you for everything for aiding and abetting me :p )

Right, I'll take it on the chin if I'm ripped off but I'll be awfully hacked off if I get a duff bed into the bargain.

Tim, your expertise and guidance has been unbelievably kind and insightful and I thank you for it. I've seen posts on here with people go on about you in it for yourself but my story proves otherwise so congratulations on your kindness of spirit.

    Today I buy a bed!!
