We had a new (supposedly good) mattress 2 years ago from Dreams and every morning for the last year I've woken up with lower back pain. Having just been on holiday and had some LOVELY nights sleep on a Vitafoam mattress I'm thinking of buying something similar here - but where to start?
Having read various posts here and spoken to friends I'm moving towards a pocket sprung matress (800-1800 springs for a king size) with a decent memory foam top layer.
Any comments on choice, recommendation about where to go, brands, price ranges I should expect gratefully received
Also, does anywhere allow you to try for a few nights and return if it's not right?
Thanks lots0 -

So are you saying that the 25 year guarantee offered by Ikea (details on their website) is worthless? What is the life expectancy for a good quality mattress? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

There are two main suppliers of memory foam to mattress manufacturers in the UK. They are Kaymed and Vitafoam whos products are more or less identical. So any well made memory foam mattress should be similar.
There are retailers who give a satisfaction guarantee, but you would have to search for them, and read their terms and conditions carefully.0 -

Read their small print in the guarantee.
A good quality mattress if looked ofter properly should give a minimum of 10 years good service.0 -

If of any help. Argos for sure. If you dont remove the plastic cover. No charge for return. But there may be a very limited choice of quality available.
And probably only worth considering buying when at sale prices.

Thanks Tim - what about the foam & sprung mattress combination -is this a good option? My hubby is 1 ft taller and 5 stone heavier than me is that makes a difference...0 -

And for online purchases BedlumBeds appear to have one of the better returns policies. And NO I dont have any connection or affiliation in case of comments eleswhere.
(Also there were not any other replies before I started my slow typing, including this).

How do I know if it's well made ? Thanks0 -
Can anyone (Tim!) help and advise me. My matreess/bed search continues and i've seen the following bed in my local independent shop:
Relyon Marlowe King Size Matress and sprung divan set £1395 reduced to £665 (1400 pocket sprung mattress with padded topper)
What do you think, the guy in the shop said it was the bargain of the century! It did seem good value in comparison to the others on offer, he said it was an end of line thing, hence the reduction to clear. Thanks for your help...0 -

The pocket sprung/memory foam combination is supposed to be the best option. However you need to be careful as there are a lot of lower standard models available that have much shorter springs that are surrounded by reflex foam. This means that the air can't circulate as well.0
