Depends on what you like, personally I dont like memory foam, but it can make for a more comfortable sleep and those with poorer circulation [
] can stay warmer. I bought a decent pocket sprung mattress with damask cover and hand stitching and although not ridiculously priced is more than good enough for my requirements and will hopefully last many a good year!

I am having difficulty deciding which mattress to opt for on a new bed we intend to purchase. The two similar options are:
70mm Memory Elastic Foam on a High Density Foam Unit
70mm Memory Elastic Foam on a Multi Zone Pocket Unit
Does anyone have any experience on the advantages or disadvantages of either type? By the way the first one is more expensive.0 -
i have got one of those memory foam matresses....not a tempur one though , a silentnight one...to be honest they are ok i dont know if i rate them as exceptional though,, i also had a tempur memory foam pillow which is now gatherin dust in the garage,,it gave me a crick in the neck,,,,hmmmm 70.00 wasted .....0

Is memory foam the "best" mattress
It all depends on personal preference. The pocket sprung/memory foam (not the reflex foam encapsulated pocket spring type) are supposed to give the best support. However if you like a soft mattress, or just don't like memory foam, then pocket sprung only would be better.0 -

70mm of memory foam is really too deep (unless you like being hot in bed). Try going for 50mm (yes 20mm does make a difference).
Springs with memory foam are usually regarded as the best option (pocket sprung if you can afford it).
Multi zone is more of a gimmick than anything else.0 -
Hi all- first post here.
Wondered if anyone had any experience with reece hi-sleeper m+s trad open coil mattress. We bought this bed at a disount from one of those trade secret warehouse places and the mattress is just awful. My poor little daughter has been complaining that it is uncomfortable, and it now makes sense as I kept on finding her asleep on the floor, despite her being so excited about her new bed. Are you meant to feel the open coil springs directly under your hand? If it is faulty- do I take up the matter with m+s ( that's the label) or the warehouse?
Thanks for any advice0 -

You will often find that if a mattress comes with a bedstead or a bunk then it will be a bottom of the range budget mattress. They do this so you think you are getting more for your money. However as you have found out you are usually better off trying to get them to give you a discount for the bed without the mattress, then buy a mattress from somewhere else.
With bottom of the range budget mattresses there is very little quilting on top of the springs, so you can often feel them.
If they had a mattress with deeper quilting on the display model, then you might be able to argue that you didn't get the quality of mattress that was displayed. Otherwise I don't hold out much hope.
You will often find that by paying just £10 to £20 more than the bottom of the range mattress you can get one that is far superior, and is deep quilted.0 -
thanks Tim- I should have focused more on the mattress, but was in space saving mode! The bargain bed not really a bargain as new mattress may now be needed to prevent sleep depraved child.
Tim, is it worthwhile trying a topper or just moving on and putting down to experience?
Honestly I'm shocked by how thin the cover is. Even her last Ikea cheappo mattress was more comfy.0 -

You would probably be better off going for a better mattress unless you can find a topper cheap enough.0 -
I wonder if anyone can help - I started getting backache in bed, and my old (good quality, pocket sprung) mattress was getting on, I had had ot for about ten years, so I bought myself a new 'rest-assured' pocket sprung mattress - and I still have backache in the mornings!! It is on a slatted base.
My partner sleeps fine on it, and it is not a uncomfortable bed in general - however, recently the only times I havent woke up with a bad back is when I have slept on really cheap thin matresses!!
In prague I stayed in a youth hostel and slept on something which was basically a wooden box (solid top) with abut a 4" thick foam matress on top - it was brilliant!!
So my question is, what can I do to get a good nights sleep -
would a topper help?
Putting a board under the matress?
anything else?
I really dont want to have to buy another mattress if there is any other solution.0
