It is on a slatted base.
My partner sleeps fine on it, and it is not a uncomfortable bed in general - however, recently the only times I havent woke up with a bad back is when I have slept on really cheap thin matresses!!
In prague I stayed in a youth hostel and slept on something which was basically a wooden box (solid top) with abut a 4" thick foam matress on top - it was brilliant!!
So my question is, what can I do to get a good nights sleep -
would a topper help?
Putting a board under the matress?
anything else?
I really dont want to have to buy another mattress if there is any other solution.
Have you been to specialist about your back?
How long have you had the new mattress?
How far apart are the slats on your bed?
Is there a big difference in firmness between your old mattress and the new one?0 -
My daughter needs a new mattress on her bed. Her current one was pretty cheap and has only lasted about 5 years but she says it is now uncomfortable and is bothering her back.
I have a fairly limited budget of around £150 for this but I would like to get her the best mattress I can.
Anyone have any advice here about what I should go for and where I should look?
Thanks in advance!0 -
I got a foam one from Marks & Spencer, it was about £90 delivered. Came rolled up and vacuum packed once the plastic was removed it sprung to life. It's very comfortable, not like the cheapo foam mattresses. I think they've got reductions on mattresses at the moment.0

Thanks Tim - in response to your questions...
I havent been to a specialist 'cos my back only hurts me in the morning after sleeping - never in the daytime or for the first few hours in bed.
We have had the mattress about 6 months or so
We put extra slats in so they are only a couple of inches apart
No, I think its quite similar.0 -

No, I think its quite similar.
You really should go and see a doctor to see if there is an underlying problem.
If the new mattress is similar to the old one, then it could be that it's the type or the firmness of the mattress that doesn't suite you.
Have a feel over the surface of the mattress to see if it is uneven at all. This could indicate failed springs (and is quite common with that brand).
What is the exact model of the mattress?0 -

Don't be fooled by the testing shown on the adverts. All new designes of furniture get tested like that at FIRA (Furniture Industry Research Association).0
