It doesn't really give enough information about the bed to be able to comment on the quality of this one.

Please do a search in the forums for this brand before buying.
Rest assured it will be poor ;)

  • Hi Tim

I am new to this forum but after ploughing my way through the mattress minefield I need some advice!

I really like the look of the La Romantica Madrid but am I right in thinking if I have wooden slats I need to check the width before buying a pocket sprung?

Pocket sprung with memory foam is definitely what I want - I have been to several bed shops and not one salesman has asked me about the kind of bed base!

The man in Dreams was totally rubbish and told us all sorts of nonsense and Bensons for Beds didn't seem to have a clue what they were talking about hence why I am trawling the internet looking at mattresses online.

Would love to hear your advice.

As long as the slats aren't more than 3" apart it will be enough support for most pocket sprung mattresses, but the memory foam (as long it's foam top and bottom like the Madrid), will be fine with a slightly larger gap as the springs wont be able to push through the layer of foam between it and the slats like a normal pocket sprung might.

You wont get a direct reply from Tim about the Madrid as it's a model he sells, and he wont be able to comment so as to not break forum rules.

I think I will go for the Madrid. Reading between the lines I am guessing Tim would recommend it if he could!

It doesn't seem too expensive - I have found it for £439 for a king size - but as so many of the big brands are so ridiculously over-priced I have lost all sense of what is good value for money.

Do you know of any other brands that are similar quality that might be a bit cheaper?

Quality and cheap dont find themselves in the same sentance often im afraid!

Other brands that have been recommended on these threads (and not warned off by Tim!) are Kozeesleep, Restus, Staples/Myers, Harrison and Relyon. I'd do some quick searches for those companies and see how prices compare?

Where did you find the Madrid for that price?

And perhaps this one for my son

Am I getting any better at this choosing malarky? Am away now to try one called Beds R Us? Here's hoping.
