Who told you that they were a grand cheaper??

You can actually get them for a similar price to non turn mattresses of equivalent quality.

Grand cheaper than the one from Dreams, there SKS Memory Foam/Pocket Sprung was 1699.99, whereas this one is less than 500.00 which is more than a grand difference. Dreams are just ridiculuosly overpriced! I'd rather save the money because quality wise I assume theres not a huge diffence

Guys where is the best place to get a euro size king matress for a wodden slate bed?
  • Well I'm a bit annoyed now that I've done some research. The company charged us £925 for the non existent Zip n Link Shakespeare Memory Plus mattresses but online I can find the singles for £280 a piece, which means a pretty massive mark up or premium for a non existent zip. In some ways I'd have been willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and let them sell us two singles but seeing as they are soooo much more expensive then we can get on-line AND we have a get out clause I just can't let it ride and think I'll have to use the leverage we have to escape the current sale and either order two singles on-line (wife found them very comfortable and is concerned about swaping for another make)

or picking up the La Romantica Madrid which is slightly more expensive but is turnable.

Looking at the pics I'm not sure the Shakespeare is made in the same way as the La Romantica, it doesn't appear to have the same (hand tufting?) dents and instead has parallel lines of stitching, altough this might make it better for putting the two mattresses together (less obvious when there are two singles next to each other maybe?) apart from that they seem pretty similar :/

  • Oooo I have another question

Our bed has a slatted base with more then a inch gap between the slats, now I'm a heavy swine and not all the slats are in tip top condition :embarasse i.e. some are broken. We love our bed, its a leather sleigh bed and theres no way we want to replace it. If we are going to get a foam/ pocket combo am I best to go and get some hard board and board out the bottom? It has a sturdy centre rail and a lip at the side so all I need to do is take the plastic sockets for the slats out and cut board to fit. I've heard peg board mentioned because of the holes but is it sturdy enough to take a heavy mattress and fat bloke?

    Thanks

Peg board is only 3mm so would go on top of the slats you've got there as reinforcement. With memory foam and gaps of only just over an inch, it shouldn't be a huge issue, but if you can replace the slats with hardboard that would of course be helpful.

If you can't get any replacement slats from the manufacturer, then swap them with the ones near the foot end of the bed as they will take least weight. The peg board is just to spread the weight out over the slats, so it should be sufficient.

    "Hi Quark GB.

I've just had a look at your post 1119, and I would double check that the mattress is two sided. I get the feeling that it may be an error. Try calling the manufacturer and getting the full spec from them."]

    Hi Tim.

Thanks for your reply and also for your prior acknowledgement in your previous reply which I was very fortunate to have seen before they were kindly removed, having now received a reply, or was able to answer.

I have indeed called the manufacturers a few times trying to get the full spec from them. And due to description discrepancies and lack of info, to the point that I think they could well believe now that I might be an industrial spy for their competitors. :D

I am told that it is double sided memory of 50mm visco elastic foam. And are also now told that the density is 65kg/m3 which is good news? Not as good though is, although on line description says 'tufted', I am now told it is quilted. (It is also said to have 450g Flex bond or something similar).

My biggest problem now, as still was at 04/11/08, is trying to establish a comparative firmness rating. It is described as medium firm, which doesn't really seem to mean a whole lot. Most of the range is thus described.
It does need to be firmer than the 'med/firm' Carlton Trizone Memory though.

As said in my first post/query addressed to you #1102 page 56. It is a pocket sprung memory mattress with 1053 springs (for double). The springs are 16.5 gauge. Given the number springs would this be normal for a med/firm to firm support please?

Unfortunately I'm unable to find out their length. Which I guess would be a help? Neither can I find the total mattress weight.

    Thanks.
    .
