    Was it this mattress?

We were in Dreams today and the Salesman kept going on about how popular the mattress was etc and he really recommended it.

It was comfortable but at £1699 for a super king size I thought it was pricey. Can anyone recommend something similar for a cheaper price?

    Thanks in advance

All dreams sales staff must have cupboards full of Horlicks!

@ pr33tz - A bit further up this page is a recommendation of a similar memory foam and pocket sprung mattress...a bit less than the £1700 Dreams are quoting  it can be done, so check around. Look for about 2.5" memory foam top and bottom, turnable and 1000+ springs for a King size.

    It's a breasley 700 flexcell (http://www.memory-mattress.co.uk/about_memory_mattress.html - the 7cm version).

My backache isn't quite as bad today, but still undecided as to what to do.

Thought I would update you all. We decided to keep the mattress even though I still had some backache. But after another week (and I changed my pillow to the memory foam one that came free with it), my backache has gone. I'm now very happy with the mattress.

I've just moved into a new unfurnished house and I'm looking to buy a reasonably cheap double/kingsize bed. I've just moved out of student life so I'm used to pretty rough living, however I would like something just a little bit more luxurious than the past.

The only one I've found so far that is around my budget is from argos, I'm not sure what other people think about this.

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6646286/Trail/searchtext%3EOSAKA.htm

£279.99 for the kingsize bed and the mattress. Delivery is only £6 which is a huge bonus (I only checked Ikea but they were after £35). It's self-assembly which is also a must.

However I'm not sure what they mean by Luxury Mattress. It doesn't really say much else about it.

    Any advice?

Im looking for something similar ie Memory foam & pocket springs.... So far I have seen this one as the best value for money
    http://www.bedstreet.co.uk/kozee-sleep-coolmax-super-kingsize-1000-pocket-mattress-p-2238.html

Its got 1000 pocket springs, which is less, and is non-turn, which Iv heard are basically cheaper to manufacture and reduced lifespan. But price wise, its essentially a grand cheaper!

Anyone any good/bad comments on the one above or receommend an alternative SKS model.... preferably similar price with memory foam on both sides?

    Hi byb3.
I would not be too hopeful of getting very much helpful advice on a product
from Argos on this forum. I was unable to get Any at all.
And you have to bear in mind that this is a Big retailer of which there appear
few if any, recommendations or for their products.

It is more likely that If receiving any advice at all it is more likely, going on past
posts to be to the tune of "to go for a smaller independent manufacturer".
Whereas if you had been sooner you might have been recommended the likes of
"Staples/Myers, Restus, Harrison, Relyon and Kozeesleep." before overridden.

However as you say ,the delivery charge is only £5.99, and if you’re not happy with
it (subject to some conditions) there is no charge for collection or delivering a replacement
Especially so within seven day period.

Which is a lot less than some delivery charges of up to £50.00 from some suppliers
recommended on here, which I have to assume could be a reason for any answers to
requests for help or advice from this supplier being notable by their absence.
To my recent experience certainly so in any event!

Having said all this, I do have to admit there is not a large choice bed manufacturers
on offer from argos now. I think there was more choice years ago.
Most of their range does now unfortunately does seem to be silentnight which
following the general, it seems, opinion. Have steered clear of this brand.
Although no doubt there could be some satisfied customers?

And I most certainly only would buy when their half price or similar sale is on.
Also agreeing that the full prices are likely over inflated anyway.
And could still be difficult to find a suitable bed. But at least one can try it out!
In fact my current Sealy due for replacement was bought I believe more than 10 years
ago was bought from argos, although first bed tried was not satisfactory.
But at least I was not stuck with it, unlike Many years ago from a bed showroom.

Aside from this, the bed you have linked does not appear to contain any useful
information whatsoever. And I would want to know a lot more about it than that.
Possibly argos could provide you with some if you phone so that you can compare.
I have to think at that price it is unlikely to be anything other than basic.
And you could of course go ahead and try it, then reject it if not liked.
Unfortunately the flaw with that plan is that if you do like it. There is no telling on
the limited info available how long it will last.

But not being too expensive at £279.99 for kingsize bed and mattress.
Then at least you will have a bed frame and wont have lost too much
if it requires replacement sooner than you would have hoped?

    Well said Marionw1.

On top of which you have bought a mattress that you Previously saw recommended on here 07.

You are happy with it. And you find it comfortable.

And yet you’re still in the wrong!

With regards to being single sided on the memory foam pocket sprung mattresses.... Yes - one of the reasons for only putting memory foam on one side could be that it keeps the price down. However being doubled sided increases the weight and depth of the mattress. When you consider that a significant number of people buy memory foam mattresses because they have a bad back or want to avoid one then the idea about turning a heavy mattress once a month could do more damage to a back than the benefit of the memory foam. This is an issue I am considering at the moment. I am happy to turn a mattress - but my mother (aged 65 and on her own) would have trouble turning a double double sided mattress. In fact,on reflection, I think I would struggle with a King Size on my own.

With the depth of the mattress increasing over a standard mattress - you may find that if you use fitted sheets at the moment that they will not fit on a double sided memory foam mattress. I would welcome any comments on this - especially if I am wrong!

What's your beef Quark? I come on here to give advice and help where I can. I don't know it all, and am far from perfect, but enjoy helping people make more educated decisions about such an important part of living considering you spend 1/3 of your life lying on a mattress!

I have had personal bad experience with Silentnight quality and customer service, so recommend against using them where possible. I have good experience with Staples and indirectly Harrison. The rest have been recommendations made by other posters on this forum, and have been recommended by Tim as a bed seller to be of good quality and VFM. Why is this such a bad thing???

People can make what ever decision they like, but it would be good to at least go in armed with some more information about what makes a good mattress, what is good VFM and what are sales gimmicks.

To make personal attacks against myself and Tim is uncalled for and unnecessary  I know nothing about your posts disappearing, and have no agenda against anyone on here, unlike some it seems? My 'offensive' comment in the 5th of November was taken completely out of context, and as explained further down the thread, was because I live near the OP and know the area and the town they llive in.

Please only comment on here if your posts are likely to be helpful, rather than derisary, thanks :D

It won't be a luxury mattress for £279 including the bed.

As a general rule the only time you find a bargain at Argos is when it's reduced to clear.

As for the delivery cost, don't you think that they have actually added part of the delivery charge to the price of the bed?
