    Just found this:-

    2.
Can I use an electric blanket? In the long term it can break down the memory cells, but is ok to use one just to warm the bed and not leave it on all night.

    15. Is it alright to use an electric blanket with my Memory Foam Mattress?
We do not recommend using electric blankets with the Lifestyle Mattress. Exposure to direct heat over extended periods of time can cause damage to memory foam. Once you are in bed, the mattress will warm up quickly in response to your body heat. If you do choose to use an electric blanket to warm your mattress before bedtime, we recommend that you turn it off after 20 minutes or so to avoid overexposing the memory foam to heat.

To be fair to Tim etc. it's the first time you mentioned you were only using the electric blanket for a brief period of time to warm the bed up. From your previous posts it would have been reasonable to assume you were leaving it on for longer periods than this and advocating electric blanket's use with memory foam. Now it is qualified I think you are in agreement but before it did not appear that way.

Sorry I disagree with you. I would not say that it was reasonable to assume I was leaving the blanket on for long periods of time. I said I used an electric blanket - that's all. I neither advocated using an electric blanket or otherwise. All I am saying is I am quite happy with my new mattress the way it is, electric blanket, thin topper and all and that it's my choice as to whether I want to take the chance of possibly voiding any warranty or not. I'm sure anyone reading these threads can make their own mind up. I also said comfort from any mattress is subjective.

You weren't 'supposed' to mention it, but it was a fairly safe assumption to make that you were using it all night long...the three of us that read your posts thought so anyway!

Let's change the subject shall we

could stay in bed all day now and with the electric blanket to take off the chill - so snug when we get in - perrrrrrrrrfect.

This was my first post on the electric blanket saga I made. "take off the chill" to me does not mean it was on for longer periods.

Sorry but just because all three of you assumed wrongly doesn't make you right- "take off the chill" does not in anyway mean I had the blanket on all night. Why should you have the last word?

I have been into Dreams today and tried out a few beds. The bed me and my OH seemed to feel comfortable was £1200 but we suddenly managed to get it knocked down to £615 for an ex-display, free delivery if we buy by 1pm etc.

So basically I want to know where is the best value for money mattress.

We would like a 5ft pocket sprung, 1000+, memory foam topper or latex topper.

What's the going rate? And brands to go for?

i'd like a pocket sprung mattress with memory foam

is there any advantage with having a double sided mattress with foam on each side over just a pocket sprung mattress with a separate memory foam topper?

I don't have back problems so I thought I could save money in the short-term and get the separate foam topper at a later date

Yes there is. There is a lot of development goes into making sure all the components of a mattress work together.

I have been told by many people who have first tried a topper with their existing mattress, then upgraded to a mattress with the mattress built in, that the latter was far superior.
