With regards to being single sided on the memory foam pocket sprung mattresses.... Yes - one of the reasons for only putting memory foam on one side could be that it keeps the price down. However being doubled sided increases the weight and depth of the mattress. When you consider that a significant number of people buy memory foam mattresses because they have a bad back or want to avoid one then the idea about turning a heavy mattress once a month could do more damage to a back than the benefit of the memory foam. This is an issue I am considering at the moment. I am happy to turn a mattress - but my mother (aged 65 and on her own) would have trouble turning a double double sided mattress. In fact,on reflection, I think I would struggle with a King Size on my own.
With the depth of the mattress increasing over a standard mattress - you may find that if you use fitted sheets at the moment that they will not fit on a double sided memory foam mattress. I would welcome any comments on this - especially if I am wrong!
i quite agree with you regarding turning a mattress if you are on your own and for that reason i only top and tail my mattress. regarding sheets for my double i buy king size fitted sheets or ikea sheets as they are bigger and very reasonable at around £5/6
i do hope this has been helpful for someone0 -

I now firmly believe that you should buy top quality mattresses because after all you spend a huge amount of tim in your bed. Anyway, I found this site for mattresses. Dont know whether its any good .

I hope yours last longer than most, but keep an eye on it and get it replaced as soon as you notice any defects...:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Its got 1000 pocket springs, which is less, and is non-turn, which Iv heard are basically cheaper to manufacture and reduced lifespan. But price wise, its essentially a grand cheaper!
Anyone any good/bad comments on the one above or receommend an alternative SKS model.... preferably similar price with memory foam on both sides?
Who told you that they were a grand cheaper??
You can actually get them for a similar price to non turn mattresses of equivalent quality.0 -

I think there is a misunderstanding regarding non turn mattresses. They still have to rotated lengthways on a regualar basis, which depending on the type of base you have can be more difficult than turning a mattress over.
If you have a two sided mattress, but don't turn it, then it will last the same as a non turn mattress. So even if you only turn a 2 sided mattress over on rare occasions, it will still last longer than a non turn one.0 -
I'm wondering if someone can give me some advice.
My wife and I recently went mattress shopping and settled on a combined pocket sprung and and foam mattress, we thought it was really confortable and were happy with the price at around £950 for a Zip n link Super King size (we need zip and link so we can get it clear up the stairs in out little victorian terrace)
The mattress is the Shakespere Memory Plus.
We've been waiting the expected time and I called today and the store chased Shakespere and apparently they don't do Zip n link in that size, despite what the rep told the store when they called him (I was there at the time).
What I'm interested in is if there are any other manufacturers who do something similar, the Shakespere was our choice over other mattresses of a similar size both pocket sprung and memory foam apart from a £3000 memory foam monster which we can't really justify
The shop say that Shakespere are happy to sell me two singles but I'm not espcially keen on the idea of having two lots of piping in the middle of the bed even with a mattress protector
The really annoying thing is we have signed a finance agreement for 0% and waited 3 weeks, I'm sure we can get the money back but not the time
Any suggestions on a similar quality mattress?
thanks in advance

Most manufacturers will do zip and link, so it sounds like the sales rep didn't want to put themselves out.
They obviously didn't explain to you that zip and link mattresses are just two single mattresses with zips to join them together, so you would still have the piping problem. Although depending on the exact design of the mattress it may be more or less noticeable.0 -

Thanks Tim
Yes I did realise that about zip and link but I feel that having it would be a lot better than not having it and having 2 un attachedsingles side by side, my wife and I like to fo to sleep in the middle and then move acoss to our own sides so having two seperate matresses which aren't zip and linked sounds like it might cause a problem. Our last mattress is a one piece open coil but I had to physically bend it to get it up the stairs hence the idea of going for the ZnL.
Its not the shop guys fault, he rang Shakespeare and they told him it could be done so he's done his part in this, its the manufacturer rep who is to blame
The Memory Plus has some pretty severe piping too!

I'm just not sure what to do now, darn small hallway

Pocket sprung mattresses do bend easier than open coil sprung ones, although with memory foam it won't be as easy to bend as one without.0 -
That memory plus is non-turn btw, not ideal, did you know? Maybe you can get a turnable alternative, and with it being zip and link, much easier to turn half a mattress at a go:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things.
