Hi Quark GB.

I'm just getting some more info for you, and should be able to reply to your question later on today.

Hi Tim.

Thanks for your reply and also for your prior acknowledgement in your previous reply which I was very fortunate to have seen before they were kindly removed, having now received a reply, or was able to answer.

I have indeed called the manufacturers a few times trying to get the full spec from them. And due to description discrepancies and lack of info, to the point that I think they could well believe now that I might be an industrial spy for their competitors. :D

I am told that it is double sided memory of 50mm visco elastic foam. And are also now told that the density is 65kg/m3 which is good news? Not as good though is, although on line description says 'tufted', I am now told it is quilted. (It is also said to have 450g Flex bond or something similar).

The memory foam depth and density looks good.

From what I remember from the photo the mattress was not tufted. It is possible that it could be micro quilted, but definately not deep quilted on a memory foam mattress, as it would stop the memory foam working properly.

I'm puzzled as to why it would contain flex bond.

From what you have said it sounds like the mattress may be two sided, but only has memory foam on one side, and is possibly deep quilted on the other.

My biggest problem now, as still was at 04/11/08, is trying to establish a comparative firmness rating. It is described as medium firm, which doesn't really seem to mean a whole lot. Most of the range is thus described.
It does need to be firmer than the 'med/firm' Carlton Trizone Memory though.

As said in my first post/query addressed to you #1102 page 56. It is a pocket sprung memory mattress with 1053 springs (for double).

The industry standard is to give the number of springs for a king size mattress. Are you sure it wasn't 1053 in a king size, but less in a double?
Quark_GB wrote: »
The springs are 16.5 gauge. Given the number springs would this be normal for a med/firm to firm support please?

For some reason most pocket springs aren't rated thith the imperial gauge, but the thickness of the wire is usually given in mm (this is the oposite for open coil springs). I have done a bit of research and found this conversion table:

Oops, the table didn't work on here, so follow this link to find it

If it contained around 1000 springs in a king size mattress then with the springs being between 1.6mm and 1.7mm which would equate to 16.5 gauge, then the springs would be rated as medium to firm.

Unfortunately I'm unable to find out their length. Which I guess would be a help? Neither can I find the total mattress weight.

Thanks.
.

It amazes me that the manufacturer can't give you the exact spec, as they must have a copy of the spec requested from Argos. This makes me suspicous that as with many many chain stores who get manufacturers to make items to their own spec, they are probably made to a low cost/low spec rather than for quality.

Wow!!!

Many thanks Tim for taking the time for your research and reply.

Sorry omitted to put that it is in fact a 1200 mattress (king size) when I stated 1053 springs (Double size).
And may have mis-heard Flex bond. And thought on next call could been Nova or the like?

I will be back later to complete my reply and info if I may (I am somewhat slow!).
(Also had a virus alert come up before finished, too be followed by loss of reply already typed!)

But just wanted to come on to give my initial thanks before the thread moved on too far away.
Thanks again.

• Hi everyone

I'm praying I'm half way decent at this link thing

http://www.bedstar.co.uk/shop/catalog/Stock_Rest_Assured_The_Jupiter_1200_Pocket_Deluxe_5FT_Kingsize-p-20322.html

Did it work? Can anyone advise me on this. I don't often get time to look online so this is my chance.

I absolutely need to get beds for my son and for us. We'll all end up cripples at this rate. Husband went to Dreams today and was quoted round about £900 for a four foot bed and a king size mattress. I hope I can get it cheaper than this. His spec (per this fab thread) is 1000 pocket springs for Kingsize

Might be back in a second with another link
