It says:
The Calypso mattress is 10" deep comprising of a firm 6" deep 1500 pocket sprung layer (in a 5' king size mattress). This is then topped with a total of 4" (2" either side) of visco elastic memory foam for ultimate support . This is then covered in a luxuy fabric
giving it a firm feel.
The Calypso has 1000 springs, not 15000 -

oh, so maybe, it wont be so firm.
Maybe medium to firm??
Does it seem like a good choice?
I would love the La Romantica Venice, but it is over my budget , and I am wondering if this would be a good subsitute!!0 -

All I can say is that I stopped selling them when they started messing us about by changing the internal components to cheaper options.0 -
Thank you, Tim Deegan
I am totally confused!!
I never realized how much stress buying a new mattress causes.

Hi,
We thinking of buying a single bed from Warren Evans as a first bed for our son. They also do mattresses, so I'm wondering if I should buy that from them as well, or if anyone has a recommedation on a suitable mattress for a small child (3 year old).
Their link is http://www.warrenevans.com/mattresses. We have a pocket sprung ourselves - is this appropriate for him?
Thanks0 -

Ouch....I can't believe how high those prices are
There isn't really any point spending the money on a pocket sprung mattress for a 3 year old, as they aren't heavy enough to make the springgs contour. Your best bet would be a deep quilted open coil sprung mattress. This will also withstand being bounced on better.0 -
I wish we could get a new mattress. We tried some in various shops, and was really disappointed by the fact that they all just seemed medium at best, none were firm. A very frustrating shop; and we're still hunting! Bit expensive though, so it will have to wait a while...0

Thanks Tim,
I know the prices are a bit of a shocker, but I was coming from the "invest now to get something that lasts and saves in the long term", but I appreciate the comments - now the question is where to find a good "deep quilted open coil sprung mattress".0 -

As a separate point.... what slightly confuses me that my vision of memory foam was that it was flat and the body heat meant the foam moulded to your body. However, looking at the photo here, the mattress isn't flat to start with - the memory foam is pinched where the hand tufting is (is that the right term?). Doesn't this adversely affect the memory foam ability to mould to the body given that there are these mini-craters in it?0
