That's the third recommendation you've made about Dreams, are you an employee by any chance?! Ive not heard another good work said about them, and have had poor customer service and advice from them personally

I'm not on about Dreams, http://www.deluxe-beds.co.uk/ Deluxe Beds Ltd.

What benefit would advertising Dreams on MSE get me if I worked there (which I dont)

I dont know what benefit advertising would make, but guys do it shamelessly. If you dont work there, great, recommend away! But maybe add the link so we know what bed you're talking about and get the name right ;)

  • Hi all new to the site and glad I stumbled on this thread, I was going to buy a Dreams Chaucer bed last week am but glad to have read about the troubles people have had and put the money back in the pocket.

From what I have read and must admit not read it all as there is sooooooo much. I want to go for a king size medium to firm pocket sprung bed and have now descarded the memory foam topper.

I was looking at spending upto £1000 on the bed and can re-use our divan as even though it is 7 years old it seems better built than the ones I have seen over the last couple of weeks.

I Live in Herts and wondered if there are any good bed shops around the area? I have been into dreams, bensons and what ever poor bed shops there are in the out of town area's but have not found anything that we like and it is now getting a bit of a pain. I need to find somewhere where we can get genuine advice and a range of beds that are straight foward and not just hyped up rubbish.

    thanks in advance

    Welcome Martin

Im glad you found us, and saved some time and money, by not getting the Dreams bed! It sounds like you know what you want, and just need to find the mattress to match. You will, quite easily, be able to find that and have plenty of change to spare with £1000!

What I would suggest, is look for decent manufacturers and then see where the nearest supplier is. Over the last few weeks/months, we have had plenty of recommendations on here but so I dont break any forum rules don't want to promote any one particular brand/model. Suggested good buys (and not condemned by our resident bed expert!) come from Harrison, Staples (Myers), Restus, Kozeesleep and Relyon. Perhaps Google them and see if you can try one at a local independant supplier. You will more likely get a neutral sales pitch from the smaller shop as the staff aren't commission driven like the others (Dreams etc).

A couple of points to add. Don't believe the non-turn sales gimmick, it just halves the life of a mattress for the same money! If you want pocket sprung, make sure it's not reflex foam encapsulated springs and ideally the spring count is over 1000 (King size).

If you want to ask about any you find, post a link here and hopefully someone will advise.

    HTH :)

Both of the first two are hand tufted. This actually means the style of quilting. Hand tufted means that the cords and felt washers are inserted by hand. Most independent manufacturers still do most of the assembly by hand on most mattresses.

You probably know my feelings by now on non turn mattresses.

It's better to go for a high quality pocket sprung mattress, rather than a lower end pocket sprung/memory foam mattress.

    Job Done,

Just ordered the Kozeesleep Caversham in SuperKing for under £440 by using Bedstars price match, thus i also get a couple of pillows thrown in.
Now it's just the wait for delivery........

Cheers Guys for all your advice :T :T

    Hi,
could someone please advise me on this mattress from ebay. I would really like your input, as I dont want to waste my money, on such an expensive item. Thank you in advance!!

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260250916099&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=016

    It says:

The Calypso mattress is 10" deep comprising of a firm 6" deep 1500 pocket sprung layer (in a 5' king size mattress). This is then topped with a total of 4" (2" either side) of visco elastic memory foam for ultimate support . This is then covered in a luxuy fabric
    giving it a firm feel.

If you don't want to waste your money on such an expensive item (and rightly so!), try before you buy...even if it's only 'similar', you need to know what spring count is good for you, whether you like memory foam and what firmness to go for. Otherwise you may have a great mattress but not like it as it's too firm/soft or too springy?!

Thank you for your quick response TiTheRev.
I have looked at so many beds over the last couple of weeks, I feel tired!!
I like them with medium to firm support, and I do like the layer of memory foam.
I guess, I might have answered my own question, perhaps that one will be too firm for me.
See, I need a good nights sleep to think properly!!
