Right, I have a £30 budget for the week! If I stick to that I should be able to have my £200 saved up and stashed away in a fortnight.

Going to asda after work to get my board out, normally go to the banks outside but I'm nipping in because I need some hairspray. So I'll pay with my card and get cash back (saves standing around in the cold outside)

I was meant to be going shopping tomorrow, but I've talked myself out of everything I wanted so I'll just be going into town instead (less temptation) I need some new work shoes, I think my sister borrowed mine. She's a size bigger and these are all out of shape now. Tempted to go to shoezone to save money but we do have a clarks and even though they'll cost me a tad more they'll last alot longer.. I think I'll nip in if they have a sale on, if not stay strong and wait until the january sales.

I'm wanting to work towards the £5 too but I'm lazy today! Well done on getting to £2.59 though!

I've only got £1 left of my budget! Hoping I can do another NSW until payday. Went into town, i needed cat food, some wrapping paper (28p - 2 rolls of wilkos 14p stuff!) and some tape for christmas presents. Ended up getting Frank another christmas present and some lipgloss too (which my mum bought on points so free!!)

    Right, STP time.
  • WOW this is great for you, we are starting to save some money too since we were spending like little kids until now, and I'm 24 and my wife is 23 yers old, but we were acting like little childs with our money until now.

    Have a great year

Good luck with your saving BenJames! We all seem to be pretty young-ish on this part of the forum. It's so tempting to think 'we're only young, doesn't matter in the long run!' when we're spending but it seems to be getting harder and harder to do that!

So so close to having £200 in the bank after this weekend (£199.39p!) Quite chuffed still, thought I'd have quite abit less. I guess it's because I paid with the change in my purse rather than with my card on sunday, and when I was in asda I just got what I needed not this that and the other.

Trying to spend next to nothing until payday so when I check my balance on friday it should hopefully be over £300. even if just for a second, I'm sad. I know! I really want a pair of shoes from asos though. They're pretty and will make my life complete but they're only shoes and from asos's own range so most likely just a step up from primark quality. And I really need some winter boots, so must stay away from asos..

Another NS-monday :) makes mondays more bearable knowing I'm getting double hours with zero chance of spending money. No money spent so far today either and I doubt I will spend anymore before friday. Even if I did it wouldn't be much, all I have in my purse is £1.01 :o

on a cheeky search for holiday caravans. They're about £40 per night so far which will mean our budget will cover it!

Found a lovely site in cumbria, £108 for friday - monday! Just emailing to see if they'll allow for a cute little jack russell. Looks like they'll be plenty of walks so she'll love it!

Another edit! be an extra £9 for Izzy to come along :) which isn't bad at all have to put the tub money in my bank account and book it soon.
  • Hi.

Mind if I join in too? I'm also a newbie saver who has been lurking for ages (probably years!), but only joined the site properly today.

I'm so impressed with your attitude towards saving, I wish I had been the same at your age. I am now 30-something lol, with no debts but had no real savings either until last week!

I've given myself a challenge to save £500 by April, and plan to raise most of that by cutting down on my outgoings. I have a standing order set up to be paid straight into my savings account every week, and my plan is that every time I cut down a bill the money I have saved will be added to the standing order so I never actually 'see' the money I have saved and get tempted to spend it.

So far I have managed to reduce my bill with Virgin Media down by £15 a month, and I have stopped buying tv guide at £1.80 lol (every little helps :rotfl: ). Hence my savings standing order is now £16.80 a month. I have just had a gas prepayment meter replaced with an ordinary credit meter which should save me even more money, but need to work out exactly how much I am saving first before adjusting my S/O again accordingly.

Sky are next in line for my bill-slashing treatment :D

Lots more bill-slashing in progress :D

awesome Ziggy you sound like you are totally on track!! What are you saving up for? anything special!?!
  • Thanks Tinkerbel.

To be honest I'm not saving for anything specific. It's just a case of feeling like I'm getting old and have nothing to show for it (apart from my 2 gorgeous sons of course, who cost me a fortune lol).

I thought if I do it by just cutting down my outgoings and then putting away what has been saved - it would be relatively easy and pain free as I'd still have the same amount of money going out of my current account every month, if you see what I mean! When it gets to £500 I will move it to a higher interest long-term account where I can continue adding to it. At this rate I will be a millionaire by the time I am 130 years old :rotfl:
