One way to deal with saving is to open one of the regular saving accounts. Work out how much you want to save and arrange for that to be paid out of your account.

So, if you can save £30 a week, you can arrange for £120 to go out every month. You are locked in for either a year or two years.

Once you have got this sorted it goes into your - have to be paid - each month and you can spend what you have left.

I was amazed how well it worked for us. It is also great if you are saving for a target e.g. a car.

fully agreed. For years I've been spending what I wanted then saving the rest, which 9 times out of 10 resulted in nothing because everyone lives to their means. I now save £600 at source and just do not realise where that £600 a month was going but I don't miss it??

I really need to get a savings account sorted. I read that any banks in the santander (sp?) groups are the safest to be with. I know Abbey are with them, but who else? I'd rather have my savings account with another bank than Abbey where I have my current account.

Funnily enough, Alliance and Leicester were snapped up by Santander a few months ago.

    Hey Everyone :hello:

Feeling abit blue today. I've been told my hours are going to be taken back down to 25 p/w. It sucks because that £20 was helping me quite abit! The other woman-lady in the office's husband has been made redundant and she wants to bring her hours back up by doing a full day a week to make up for her having the day off monday and so she can claim child benefits. Which is completely in her work contract and she does have a mortage ect so I can see where she's coming from. My Dad promises that I wont have my hours 'cut' but there isn't enough office work for us as it is nevermind another 4 hours. So I guess I'm either going to have friday off or make use of myself somewhere else in the firm. Been really quite pleased with myself over the last few weeks aswell, teaching myself new things and taking on more responsibilities in the office. Just seems like a bit of a blow really!

I'm kind of stuck in no-mans land about how to react. I don't want to get angry about it, because that isn't me at all really and from being on here I completely understand where's she's coming from moneywise, but I don't want to be a push-over and agree to having a day off because I really do love being there 5 days a week and I don't want to give it up at all.

Sorry about this, I just need to get it off my chest! I don't want to go to my Dad about it because I know it'll stress him out and Frank is at work so I can't bug him about it.

But on the brightside, I made icecream for the first time yesterday!

*hugs* Hope the hours get sorted. I think you've been doing really well recently.

Which flavour ice cream did you make?

Thanks Nicki! I think it's sorted now, I just needed a bit of a ramble I think.

Just vanilla, I've had my ice cream maker for ages I've just never used it properly :rotfl: When I got it I got a ben and jerries ice cream book so I'm going to work my way through that!

How did your uni packing go?

awesome Cinny, you sound like youre doing well but it is deffo a bummer about the job hours :( could you maybe temp for the day off you have? I don't know if you can do this but you might be able to!?
I can't work at all at the minute because all my possible uni free matchdays (I work at football) are busy with weddings and parties and whatnot! which is all well and good but my bank account is gonna take a massive hit....
I've had 2 nsds though and thats pretty good for me - managed to stay away from the lure of hot chocolate and coffee inbetween lectures (lol for 2 whole days!)!! Still not online but when I am, ill always pop in :o
