Buying property in Nottingham

Hi flutterby,
We would have a budget of upto £225k, require min 3 bedrooms and pref have good schools (primary & grammar) in the area.
We have initiated our search within a 10 mile radius of Mansfield as we have family there. However we are openly looking at any prosperous area.
Can't wait to get up there again and look around a bit more.
Many thanks0 -
Woodthorpe is split into a couple of differing areas.
Some areas are very (errmmmm....dunno how to put this tactfully....) Old...Blue rinsey....Zimmer frames....You get the picture
Some are technically woodthorpe, but not in practice...
Some are superb.....Great properties, great views, good access. etc etc etc
Depends on where you are... BUT be careful on what you get..
There are a number of (for example) what appear to be nice bungalows, but once you move in you will realise that you are in the equivalent of Bournemouth..Fine if thats what you want, but not great for a younger couple with children.. (no pub/facilities in walking distance for example)
Sherwood has equally nice areas, (again be careful), but at more reasonable rates....For your £225K you would poss get 4 beds....
Cant help on schools though....0 -
Thanks Dukesy, appreciate that0

Hi don't know Nottingham really (gun crime capital of the UK?).
But by chance two friends bought in Ladybay independently of each other - when we visited it seemed a pretty ideal place for young families.0 -
Benod, that title isn`t true of all areas and it was given the name because there were alot of gun crimes committed in a short space of time. It depends on where you live. If you want to buy house in woodthorpe, it`s a lovely area with very good schools. Pubs and bars are not too far away though child friendly ones are a car ride away. There isn`t any grammar schools but there is a nice prep school which takes children up to age of 11. Arnold Hill is the local comprehensive school which has good reports.0

Tony,
I think your budget sounds pretty healthy given what you are after, there are loads of nice areas. It really depends if you want something rural or closer towards Nottingham centre.
If you are buying though, its always worth checking for mining areas and getting a mining report on any property you are seriously interested in.
Good Luck0 -
I think I prefer a little rural but not too far away from city. Good shout on the mining report. Wouldn't want no gardens caving in now would we.
Thanks Pingu0 -
Have you bought anywhere yet?
I live in West Bridgford, dont believe what people say about the time to get into town, its not a problem. House prices in West Bridgford depend what you are looking for, for example just like most areas there are too many 2 bed new flats and many are now selling for substantially less than their initial price.
In terms of crime some areas such as Rushcliffe have very low crime statistics and Nottingham only has high numbers because the City does not include many of the suburbs which tend to have lower rates and hence bring the average down (unlike most other major cities)0
