The wider the debate and the more people offering views the better surely?0

Cot was complaining that it has taken 5 weeks so far - how long does the Insurer need to sort out a claim for a television. They could have sent someone out to look at it immediately and made a decision five weeks ago.
Why should they 'send someone out' 'immediately'?Insurers don't take so long to satisfy themselves about debiting premiums and offering cover.
Of course they don't, but how is that relevant? Are you suggesting that all claims should be settled immediately without question or investigation simply because an insurance policy can be incepted online immediately? What a fatuous argument. If you talk to claimants a lot of them say that they feel like they are treated very poorly by Insurers and made to feel like a criminals - guilty until proven innocent. Its not nonsense.
The comment of 'nonsense' was primarily in relation to the question of underwriting, which is wholly irrelevant to the case in point.0 -
Because Insurers claim to offer such great service, when in fact as in Cot's case, the service is actually very poor. Five weeks to sort out a claim for a damaged tv - I suppose you consider that acceptable in your company???0

If you had bothered to read the thread instead of letting your 'issues' with insurers cloud your judgement, you would have noticed that in post #18 the OP said that he was waiting for bank statements to prove ownership, and he only sent all the relevant paperwork to the insurer between late July and the 4th of August. This is hardly the insurer's fault is it? I hope you are more diligent when dealing with your clients' claims, although rumour has it that this may not always be the case.0 -
This is not a complex claim - how long does it take to resolve a damaged tv set - we are not talking about a lot of items or a theft. Insurers can see the tv as cot still has it.
Cot better hope he never has to claim for anything more than one item otherwise his Insurers on your argument would take years to investigate
Funny, when Insurers sell us policies they never say " and if you claim we will take as long as we feel like to settle your claim" Check Ins Co sales literature for the sort of claims made
Is 5 weeks a reasonable amount of time for Insurers to still be messing around with a claim for a damaged tv that they can see for themselves?0 -

Depends entirely on the circumstances. If the circumstances warrant a more rigorous approach and/or if there are delays outside the insurer's control then it is certainly reasonable.0 -
If you let us all know which Insurer you worked for I could let you have some examples of how diligent you are too0
