Yes, powerplay and other companies bought large stocks of most sizes to deal with 'oppotunistic' claims where a old CRT TV breaks.

Lol you really shouldn't advise on something you know nothing about. Powerplay do not stock CRT tv's. In fact they don't stock tv's at all. They have selected suppliers they can use depending on which insurance company it's for. Fir unstance the main suppliers are Empire Direct, Comet & Argos.

To the previous poster. Depending on what you had you might be able to get a CRT tv but it's likely to be a JVC or Daewoo.

    Indeed.

And how do you know so much?
  • If you all want to fight, set up your own thread about CRT TV's; don't hijack someone elses thread.

Cot, most insurers will replace a CRT TV with a TFT TV nowadays, provided they are happy with the claim. All they are required to do, however, is provide you with a new for old replacement on a like for like basis. This means that provided they can provide you with a TV that is of an identical standard with the same or better features and benefits of the old one, that is what they are able to do. Whether they will take the time to source a CRT TV is up to them, but it's probably not worth their time on the basis of the discounts they already get from their suppliers.

As to whether Powerplay have any CRT TV's, I'm sure it depends on what they are able to source at any given time. Really, though - does anyone actually care? Cot, whatever you decide, I hope you are happy with your new TV.

Thanks for the post Oscar that helps a lot I am still waiting for bank statements to prove ownership as we have shredded our old statements and chucked the receipt as it was out of warranty, just shows you don't throw anything away

Just thought I'd update this one, got all the paperwork together sent it off to L&G registered post and it took them a week and a half to get back to me to tell me they have instructed an engineer to collect the TV to inspect it but this can't be done until next Tuesday??? thats another week without the TV then, this means we have been without it for five weeks till now and god knows how long till we get it mended or replaced

From what you've said they are not dealing with it as a normal claim- they are using a process called conversation management. As a result, I would expect it to take longer.
