called VM on last saturday and spoke to a very unhelpful representative. originally planned to leave VM for o2 but decided that based on what samknows.com was saying about speed i would get, i thought i would stick with VM. guy i spoke to on sat said he could offer £15 per month. i said we had previously been offered £10 per month but he said he didnt know about the deal and said he would get someone to call back within the next week - talk about crap customer service!...

i decide to call up today and chase them up, within 30 seconds the guy on the phone said he could offer the £10 per month for 12 months with free router. done and dusted, hassle free.

on another note, i asked how much a bundle would cost for tv, internet and phone and he said the best he could offer was £54.75 per month for XL tv package including all the sky sports channels, 10 meg internet and the large phone package. after the 12 months it would go up to £79.95 but he said we could always call up for another deal on the 11 month. does this seem like a good deal?. he said it was open if i wanted to call back. i didnt check if that price included the line rental - if it doesnt then i dont think its such a good deal

    would appreciate some responses

i've been on the "2for£20" bundle for a year, with bonus talk unlimited free for a year.

rang up retentions today and was offered the same thing (2mb broadband, line rental, talk unlimited) as well as talk mobile and talk international for £19.49 for life - it's meant to about £30 value.

alternatively, i can get the new user package (i.e. £15.50/month for 12 months, at which point phone up and complain again), which we might consider as we don't make all that many calls from the landline.

now these seem good deals compared to last year, but surely it fades in comparison to tiscali etc, who offer pretty much the same deal, with (up to) 8mb broadband for £19.99? are there any advantages to sticking with virgin when even their loyalty/retentions offers are priced out of the market by standard packages from other companies?

also, does anyone know if the 2mb broadband is due to get a speed boost anytime soon, like the 4mb did recently (to 10mb).

    any advice welcomed!

I have been with VM for a couple of weeks, and after a total of about 12 hours on the phone my broadband (l) and phone (m) are working ok! But now I have decided the tv m package is just cr*p and decided to go the whole hog and get xl , and the full movie and sport package - as I have a 28 day cancllation period what is the best way to negotiate a deal - thru retentions, cancellations, online chat box ?
  • hi was paying £25 for L broadband and £11 for telephone - i called today to get this cheaper and within minutes i was offered £23 the pair for 12 months!

I had telewest orginally and never really thought about challenging Virgin on price until now!

I also have sky paying £38 a month - i was offered £56 for the L broadband, telephone, XL tv package (includes sky sports and setanta) a yearly saving of over £300!!!!

Hi I am paying £54.50 for XL internet plus XL TV....I entered this 12 month contract in January, if I try and just retain the internet part of it (because I find the tv terrible) do I pay a penalty if done before the 12 months are up? Secondly if I just want to retain the internet what sort of price would I expect to pay?

    Thanks
  • just thought i'd let you know what i pay, can't believe how prices vary so much!

I pay £40pm for the following:

line rental and evenings & weekends
    2mb broadband
    VIP XL tv package
V+ (no sign up or installation cost)

I got this a few months ago by threatening to leave

Quidco to date = £1224 cashback

I used to get just BB and TV from them, however the girlfriend moved in and forced me to get a landline , i did argue that it would never get used as we both have mobiles with free mins , but she won . But its turned out that adding the phone made my bill £9 cheaper a month, figure that one out ????????

    Yeah, package discounts.

Maybe you don't need so expensive mobile package either now, now you have the much cheaper to use landline.

Sadly many people fool themselves into thinking they are saving by using mobiles with so called 'free' minutes and not having a landline. Forgetting they are paying dearly for these 'free' minutes and other calls being dearer and it's dearer to call a mobile than it is a landline.

Yes, I had contract mobile at one time, but that was before PAYG was available, later work paid for it when changed jobs, the last time I changed jobs, didn't need a mobile. So then switched to PAYG.

Now just have a Vodafone Mobile on PAYG with Vodafone Family, so now we don't pay for calls between those on the list and other calls we extremely rarely make from the mobile and use the landline instead.

We are very tight fisted and don't like spending money when we don't have to. Certainly don't like wasting money on phone calls, amazes me some people will actually pay £25, £30, £35 per month on a mobile contract, yet don't want a landline - when it would work out cheaper for them. But hey - that's people for you! :)
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
