Ive just got off the phone to retentions by phoning 0800 0520870

Ive currently got the 3 for £30 deal

Phoned up retentions and told them i was not happy and thinking of leaving as new customers can get my package for £24.50 a month

the man i spoke to said the cheapest he could do my package for was £26.50

but he could upgrade my tv to xl for the same amount im paying now saving me £10 a month

I asked about a v+ box and he said he could do the installation for £30 instead of £75.

so in total i'm saving £165 if my calculations are correct over the year

Is this a good deal or has anyone got a better deal..................?

  • I spoke to Lee in retentions and the best they could offer me was:

    Broadband L - 4mb
Phone XL - (unlimited calls to residential uk numbers)
    TV M - basically freeview

For £26.49 the V+ service would be £5 on top of this per month and the box would be £30 purchase.

I was offered the same package on the 14th July for £26.49 with a £30 fee for the box and no £5 for the V+ service. They told me that they couldn't offer me that and they claimed to have no notes on the file.

    It stinks and I'm leaving.

I also asked how much for XL Phone and L Broadband (basically the Talk Talk deal for £19.99 pm) this worked out at the same price of £26.49. What a bunch of cowboys, i've been with them since they were Telewest and they certainly do not have any retention deals.

I called Virgin today. I only have their Broadband package which alone would cost £18 before £1 discount for ebilling.

I have Sky Freesat which I can use all around the house at no cost and I have no need for a line rental.

When I called to asked what deal I could have for Broadband on its own as I did not want to pay £17/18pm I was told "I can honestly tell you I cannot do a deal for you for broadband on its own".....however, he went on to offer me broadband and line rental for £16.50pm (I had been paying £20pm for B/B and TV so this was a saving), he put me on hold and my mobile disconnected - as it happen this worked out quite well....I rang back and the next man I spoke to said that if I did not need the land line he could do me my broadband for £10pm for six months (with no extended tie ins) or on a continuing basis of £14pm - goes to show, what you get depends on who answers your call at other end!!!! Which is completely unprofessional but that's another matter, point is there are deals available when you only have one "bundle".

Need to negotiate with VM on my VIP (XL) package which is £85 a month plus they are charging me £10 extra a month for V+ and upstairs box.

Any other provider packages I can quote to get them to offer me cheaper package? I'm free to move as outside 12 month deal now.

OK, so I've been paying £47/month for XL TV, XL BB, M Phone (which I don't use, and only have cuz the sales guy insisted the bundle offer worked out cheaper than getting the other two individually).
12 months is up, was vaguely thinking I'd call and negotiate, and now I've noticed that today they billed me £72... I assume there was some kind of £25 discount for first 12 months or something.

I will call, and re-negotiate fairly aggressively... given that I want

    XL BB
some TV including on-demand but not necessarily XL package
    phone is irrelevant

What do people think a realistic best deal to gun for is?

It looked like I could get a fairly equivalent Sky deal for £26 (would need to sort a BT line so £37.50? or so in reality) plus some one off costs for Sky+ box.

Thanks for any advice before I call and have a go :)

Been with Virgin a few years now (NTL before) XL Broadband (oh and why cant they just call it Small, Medium and Large, why not Large, Extra Large, Ridiculously Massive?!)

Last year i complained i wasn't getting the full 20mb and it went down to £25 from £37, since then it's gone back to £37. I called to see what deals were available, wasn't on the phone for that long, the guy offered me XL Broadband and the phone with free weekend calls for £32 a month... well the BT line rental is currently £13 a month alone, so it's a £18 a month saving (£136 year) in my book.

And the 50mb is on the way! Woo!

    Why can't they just call it 2Mbit, 4Mbit, 10Mbit and 20Mbit?

Yeah, though 50Mbit won't be an upgrade from 20Mbit it will be a dearer service, along with the 200Mbit they have planned for 2012.

i'm currently on XL broadband only for £37pm but I wanted to have the XL TV as it has Sentanta Sports so I called them up saying i can get so and so from sky and the guy offered me the XL TV and L Phone for £47pm with ebilling which I guess is not bad considering i was paying £37 + £11.50 per month for BT line rental.

I need to do the same for my mom and dad. I called last year for them and got their bill reduced a little and services all put onto the maximum, and they were put onto the VIP also with V+ and a second tv box.

They want wireless internet, I read a while ago that Virgin were giving VIP customers a free wireless router, is this still the case? Is it worth me trying to haggle for this and money off when I phone?

They were not long back giving customers who upgraded from M to L or XL and customers who upgraded from L to XL a free router.

Those on XL a free router as long as you paid £7.50 P&P.

New customers to VIP still get a wireless router. https://www.virginmedia.com/vip

Though VIP bundles aren't what you call cheap, so they can afford to give away a router really, especially when they cost next to nothing to buy in.

Might be worth asking about a free router.
