Virgin Media Retention thread

I took a call a few days ago from retentions after arranging a disconnection - negotiated the below on a 12 month contract.
XL BB (20MB, doubling in a few months)
XL phone
XL TV
250 mins international calls
Caller ID
£43.55pm with first 3 months free.
I have only one standard PVR box, not a Tivo.
TBH I think I would have had a better deal had I gone to Sky (which was my intention) but couldn't be ringed to take a morning/day off to wait for an engineer.
Hope this helps someone.
Thanks

I phoned up today and pressed 5 hoping to get the £2 increase cancelled.
They were not interested, said I could have my account cancelled within 6 days no problem. Not even the chance of Retentions phoning me.
Has anyone got reduction on price increase ??

took out contract in january xxl no phone line. got letter about increase in price in march. gave my notice and day later found 3 missed calls from virgin retentions. managed to answer next day. told retentions i am getting sky unlimited for 11 quidd a month after quidco and that includes landline rental. he told me best price he could do is 17 a month for 10 meg broadband. told him 10 meg traffic management is unbearable because after you reach your download limit speed goes down to 2.5 meg. he turned around and said that actually he can give me L30 package for the same price 17 a month-no landline. 6 pounds different to sky but i was getting about 9 megs with sky. reasonable offer. this is new package being rolled out in april because i will not be doubled. don't care for home use 30 megs is plenty. 10 would have been also, but virgin sucks at traffic management. hope it helps somebody0

How did they call you? Have they got your mobile number?
I've only got virgin broadband which I have just cancelled. Because
I have no landline, there is no way retentions can ever call me!0 -
Virgin are charging £39.39 per month for 40MB per month download with download speed up to 8MBPS. Unlimited calls day, eveing and week-end. Total £471.6 pa
Been in touch with BT who are offering the same package plus also getting 0845 calls included for £37.50. BT offering a £9 per month discount for first 3 months and £46.20 if I pay line rental in advance. Total £376.80 year 1.
Contract for 18 months.
Plusnet + offering same package for £351.78.
1. Do these prices include VAT ?
2. Is BT or Plusnet as good as Virgin as an ISP ?
TIA

Virgin National or Virgin Cable?0

Virgin National.
Also I can get same deal from Plusnet+ for £351.78 pa.
Is Plusnet a reliable ISP instead of BT.

Yeah. I keď have my mobile number on my account. They phoned me straight away on it. I don't have landline either0 -
Although still in contract I rung Virgin after getting a price increase letter. I checked the contract t&c's which said I has the right to cancel with 30 days notice due to this increase/change.
Due to a change in my pay structure I had been reviewing my finances and felt this may be an opportunity to cut costs from the £36.99 (pre price rise) a month for TV, phone line & broadband. After reviewing my usage I found I was mainly watching the standard terrestrial tv channels (though the extra ones were nice to have), I never used the landline (I prefer my mobile phone) and my broadband use was 3-4 GB a month. Via this site I found I could have a broadband option (inc phone line) for £12.99 a month for 12 months with Primus.
When I rung Virgin to disconnect they discussed a few options. Moving to just broadband and phone line was coming in at £21 so I put my disconnection notice in.
I then found multiple missed calls on my landline from Virgin. When I did speak with them I informed the guy I had already spoken with disconnections who had tried to help but ultimately were unable to come close to the Primus offer. I explained I really just required broadband with the phone line being unused and feeling I would be fine with just the standard terrestrial channels. He asked who the new provider was and said he could cut my services down to just the broadband for £14 a month for 12 months and that a credit of £24 would be put on my bill to effectively offset the £1 difference in cost between Primus for 2 years. I was very happy to accept. This means I do not have any inconvenience changing suppliers plus can reconnect the tv and/or phone line at any time should I wish to
PS For any PS3 users I recommend considering the Play TV module as this allows me to use mine as a hard drive recorder a la V+ and Sky+.0 -
Does anyone know if they are open tomorrow (Bank Holiday Monday)? They were open on Friday. I need to call them again...
I am paying £27.50 for 10 meg. Ridiculous as 60 meg is £27.50, but of course VM never give you a free upgrade. I called them and asked for 100 meg and a phone line. I wanted caller ID so the total would have been about £46.50 or so. It says on their web site that you can have free installation if you order online. Well, they were having none of that, if I wanted it then I would have to pay £50 for the broadband to be installed and £50 for the phone!
Once I said I wasn't willing to pay for the installation the guy pretty much talked me out of the whole thing and I ended up with just the 60 meg and free installation. That makes no sense at all since the equipment is the same for 60 meg and they are just sending it to me for a self-install. They basically talked themselves out of £20/month.
Anyway, I went back on to the web site and noticed that if you have 100 meg and a phone like (like I wanted) installation is completely free for both. So now I am going to call them again and demand this deal. Since my new contract hasn't started yet I am still on one month notice. I don't think it is at all unreasonable to ask for what they are offering new customers!0
