Best thing to do is find out how much the same would be from Sky and if its less use it to get a better deal. BT also have a good deals on Sky Sports but I'm not sure about what other channels you get etc.
After looking on the VM site, I seem to be getting it for a darn sight cheaper than new customers would, so I guess I can't really complain. would be looking at about a £15/month increases to go up to the XL 20Mb broadband though. Oh well, can't complain since I do seem to have a pretty cracking deal.
Plus I would only get about 4Mb with adsl internet as I'm a fair distance from the exchange, I guess I'm just greedy XD0 -

I was on £9 for BB (M) 10Mb, until October.
Cheapest they would do was £15 or £15.99 if I took phone.
That was also upgrading to L, i.e same speed but slightly less traffic management.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Got a call from VM this afternoon after I cancelled last week. Offered me 50meg BB for £35, a whole £3 discount on what I'm paying. I said BT infinity was only £25, they said it was 10meg slower, I said, true, but I'm not prepared to pay over £30. Offered me a 12 month contract at £30, £5 off website price. Not amazing but it'll do as I didn't really want to leave.Sigless0

I cancelled 2 weeks ago now so will be getting cut off from them in the beginning of February.
Got a call the other week and the guy said it was Virgin media so got all excited looking forward to hammer out a deal.
Went through all the security questions etc and then he said that his computer had crashed and that he would phone me back!!
Have had 2 other calls from the same number and each time I have answered it no one has been there - very frustrating!!0 -
From £49/month for L TV, XL BB, M phone, I've been offered
£40.49/month for XL TV, L BB, M phone, and a V+ box (but a one-off £40 charge).
It's an improvement but not a huge one? The guy was convinced "looking at my BB usage" that I didn't need the XL package and wouldn't notice the drop in speed, and I expect he might well be right. I don't care much about XL TV though.
I called the retentions number but didn't do the whole "leaving, wait for retentions to phone me" thing.
Did I not push hard enough? Or do I need to actually tell them I'm cancelling then wait? My problem with that is that I'm very rarely available to take a call from them.
Any advice welcomeThanks.

I think it all depends on how long you have been a customer of theirs. Their is no massive incentive for them if you have only been a customer of theirs for a year or so - apart from retention.
From what you have quoted I can guess that you haven't been a customer for that long otherwise you wouldn't be on the package you are.
Also if you haven't done the leaving thing - am not too sure why you are posting. You HAVE to do this. But like I said - if you haven't been a customer for long they aren't gonna care!!0 -
I've been a customer for, I dunno, 5 years or so. But ok, if the only way to get the best deal is not to talk to retentions but to cancel and wait, then - I'll go ahead and do that.
Thanks for the input.
And - I rang the generic number then selected through to "thinking of leaving us" - is there a direct and different number? I'll go search, thanks for the headsup.0 -
Big thanks to the people on this board who gave really useful advice. Without this board wouldn't have known how to go about it.
You have to take a BIG calculated risk and be willing to spend up to 2 HOURS on the phone!!
For the savings it is SOOO worth it.
I have been a loyal customer for over 5 years so not sure if that makes a difference. IMHO - it should, because they have been fobbing me off for that long - but maybe new customers get the same deals.
I have to say that I am VERY happy with the new deal hammered out for 12 months.
I also have to say that some people on here are not long term customers and IMHO are just being completely unrealistic and greedy.
We all know that you aren't going to get a faster BB speed or better TV with Sky. The people who want all of Skys channels + extra boxes, + superfast BB + free phone calls for £40 a month need to move on!
I don't think I have had one response or piece of advice to the posts I made. Got there in the end though!!
BTW - Virgin retentions - you won't actually be able to get through to them directly - and if you go that route it makes you look desperate so they aren't gonna give you the best rate are they?0
