Thanks for this thread!
I just phoned TW and am getting 2MB broadband for £9.99 for 6 months, reverting to £17.99 after that. He hinted strongly that in 6 months this could be reviewed again.
I currently pay £17.99 for 1MB, so I can't lose either way!0 -

Well done, I'm in exactly the same situation as you, could you tell me which number you called and the tac you took with them? I'd love to get my costs down! Thanks.0 -
I called them on 0845 142 0000 and pressed various keys as if I were going to cancel my service.
After a while on hold I eventually got a very nice chap and I asked him how I should go about cancelling my broadband.
He told me I should give 30 days notice but went on to ask why I wished to cancel. I told him I was considering other providers who had offers just now - e.g. TalkTalk. As I have a BT line this put me in a better position.
He then went on to offer the reduction which I ultimately accepted.
Give it a go, it looks like you have nothing to lose!0 -
I shall give it a go. Feeling quite hopeful, as I too have a BT phone line, Telewest's phone service has never worked well down our road. Fingers crossed for me!0

Hey presto! 2MB, £9.99 a month. I rang and asked the procedure to dis-connect, and she said they do have special offers, but they don't advertise them all the time, as customers get offended if they mess about with their accounts!
That's saved a nifty £8 per month, without the hassle of moving provider.
Thanks for the help.0 -
Thought i'd share my thoughts.
Thanks to this thread, i've just got off the phone to a very nice chap @ NTL customer retentions and asked what the procedure was in order to cancel my broadband.
The chap then asked me why, to which i said there was better deals out there ( didnt mention any names) and he then basically offered me 6 months @ half price + a speed increase on the 1st Sept to 2mb at no extra charge. I played it cool and said that it sounds ok and duly accepted the offer!!
By the way we don't have a BT line as we also have the tv/phone package with them but there wasnt a problem at all, he even said give us a ring in 6 months time and they would do their best again to keep me as a customer!!
Pretty pleased with that!0 -
Rang NTL's retention number and i also asked the procedure for disconnecting from broadband. Thanks to v helpful lady got cost of BB reduced from 17.99 to 9.99 and upgraded speed to 2mb.
Offer for 6 months but if i call again on 0800 052 9403 before 6 months is up they'll reactivate for me. Had already managed to haggle down phone and tv 6 months ago but managed to get upgrade on tv from base to family pack.
So anyone out there wondering whether to ring give it a go, you can't be any worse off.

Got half price broadband and free family pack on ntl for 6 months, £25.50 discount and told to phone back in 6 months
(currently on family + sky movies and 10mb broadband for £33 for the next 6 months!)
btw I'm a new customer too, no problems getting discount from retentions!0 -
I have posted on this thread before, stating that I got a good £9.99 broadband deal from NTL when my previous one for the same amount expired.
Well, I decided to ring them today and see what else they could offer me, as at present I am paying £36 per month to sky, £12pm to BT (line rental) plus broadband as above. (which totals £58pm plus about £10pm phone calls).
Very kindly, they offered me phone line (with evening/weekend free calls), same broadband deal and their biggest tv package - plus all sports channels -for.......... £47.50 per month!!
Magic, thanks very much I said, I'll take that!! Damn good offer I thought. PLus, I can now tell 'evil' sky & bt to eff orfff & remove ugly dish from my house!
..But no doubt someone will now come on and tell me they got it cheaper...!!
But, heh, I'm happy with it. (And just one direct debit/bill too, instead of 3.)
Give 'em a call - you should get a good deal I reckon!0 -
I just called NTL as I thought the 24.99 I am paying for my 4Mb braodband was expensive.
They suggested I could downgrade but I said no.
Then the guy offered to see what offers they could apply.
I was offered 12.49 for 3 months or 19.99 for 6 months. There was no mention of having to commit to any extended period either.
12.49 saves more and quicker so I opted for that.
Suggest any NTL customers who dont want to change, give it a go.
I called them on 0845 454000 (general customer services numer)
I know there are cheaper deals out there but I dont want to change right now. I can review in 3 months.0
