Are Sky any better, though? I was going to wait a month and renegotiate, any thoughts?

Depends on your location really, if you are in an area with good lines close to the exchange you could get decent speeds on the ADSL service and a decent package line up for the TV but you need to check what is available to you.

  • Just to let you know, I phoned them on 150 and asked when my deal was running out, I knew it was soon. He said its just run out, shall I put you through to try and get another one. I got straight through, and without asking for anything she gave me another year at £10 instead of £18.
    Well pleased

Louley appears to have BB and phone for £12.95 month? That's very good - is that all you are getting or is it part of a bigger package?

I just tried, armed with a "leaflet that came through my door" from a Virgin Media local rep. offering me 2Mb BB & phone with free weekend calls (01, 02) for £15.50 (currently paying £29 for the last 6 months I'm a stupid fool who always put off phoning them.)

Anyway his first offer was £22 for phone with free weekend calls and 4Mb BB.

I asked him what he could do if I keep the 2Mb BB and he said £15.50.

I then told him that's what it said on my leaflet, and if he hadn't offered me atleast that then I would have shown my poker hand so to speak. So he said he could not beat that offer , and I accepted it, but it does tie you in for 12 months.

Other offers on the leaflet include

    £20

    TV 35+ channels
    Phone (free w/e calls)
    2Mb BB

    £25
    TV 80+ channels
    2mb BB

    £11
    35 channel TV
    Phone (free w/e)

    £30
    2Mb bb
    80 channel TV
    Phone (free w/e)

    £39
    BB 2Mb
    TV 120 channels
    Phone (free w/e)

    £10
    BB 2 MB only

    £32.95
    120 ch TV
    Phone (free w/e)

  • Hi

3 weeks ago, we called Virgin media as our contract was about to run out.
We are customers of them for 2 years running. Our package is 2 mb BB, Basic TV and Basic Phone. First year, they were all for £25. Last year, we called them when the contract finished and they offered us the same deal for £20, which was good at thetime as we mentioned TalkTalk offer of the last year.

This year, we called them and mentioned TalkTalk offer of £15 something. They offered us the same package for £15.50. We accepted it. Today, we got a bill in which they ask us to pay £25.25 for our package!!

We called them to ask why as we had agreed £15.50 deal for the package. They said that their ''Integrity department'' has reviewed the deal and decided to withdraw the offer from us?!! We said but this can't be as we had a contract agreed verbally over the phone three weeks ago. The guy said with a cheaky tone '' Do you want me to disconnect the service for you? It will only take 30 days?!!!'' We asked not to do so at the moment as we want to think about considering another company for the same service.

Can they do this? No letter, No notice, No nothing. They said the bill serves as a notice as it is telling us what the next month's charges will be!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any help or adivce will be gratefully received

VirginMedia are seriously in breach of law! They are definately upto something, as they try to keep their profit margins up.

I was offered 4Mb broadband back in May 2006 for £10 p/m for as long as I stayed with them (lifetime offer). It was fine until Virgin took over and I started to get billed higher. I phoned to tell them what I had been offered but the person I spoke to kept saying that they would never offer something like that. I insisted that I had been offered that and to check the recordings. The person that offered this deal did not write down the length of the offer so they are saying they are not going to honour it. I argued that they didn't write down length cos it was for an indefinite period. Frankly, I got no-where so I decided to write in.

When I sent a letter of complaint, Virginmedia acknowledged my letter but did not reply back with any sort of resolutions. 9 months down the line I am seriously fed as I phoned a few days ago and argued again to no avail so have decided to give them 30 days notice.

Is anyone else having problems with life-time offers from last year? Is there anything I can do to make them honour the contract they agreed to?
    .

I can sympathise with you as I am having similar hassles, seems like the "lifetime deals" they were offering were a big fat LIE!

On 2/2/07, I phoned Retentions who agreed the following LIFETIME deal:

    4mb broadband
    XL tv package
    Talk unlimited

    Total £34.95

    PLUS

    V+ box £10.00
    Call ID £1.75

Grand total of £46.70 per month.
As I am non-d/d and extra £5, so my total monthly bill is £51.70.

On my bill every month my discounts are shown as follows:
    Courtesy Credits -£7.00
    Loyalty Pack B B Phone T V C -£24.50

I am always careful to check all bills and they have been fine right up until August 2007, when I received my bill, with the £7.00 Courtesy credit missing, so my bill is now £58.70.

I phoned customer services who had a look at the account & said there was nothing on my account about this being a lifetime deal, and they said that courtesy credits only usually last for 6 or 12 months!
I was certainly not told anything to this effect when I agreed the deal with retentions. Since I never got anything in writing about my new deal, does this mean I have not got a leg to stand on? The only proof I have is a piece of paper I took down the details on the day I spoke to them which is signed and dated.

I wrote a letter of complaint on 2/9/07, and heard nothing until an hour ago, when I received a call from Customer Concern to advise me there was nothing they could do and my charges WILL now be £58.70 p/m. The person who called me spoke to me in a very condescending manner and basically called me a liar by saying the lifetime deal I was offered was "my word against theirs". I am still reeling, as I don't feel I gave her any reason to be so unpleasant, I did not raise my voice and I just feel like she did nothing to resolve the complaint.

Just trying to figure out what I can do now, cos I want to take this higher.

    Any advice would be appreciated.
  • I have just found out that LAST July VM upgraded my broadband to 20 meg @ £35 a month without telling me, they have been taking this payment for over a year. I should have been on the 3 for £30.........phoned helpline, was told it was their mistake and i would get refund and discount off package, but another person needed to do it, so would i hold. After 15 mins a lady tells me I ASKED for the upgrade, but she cannot proove it as records dont go back that far!!!!!! all she can do is drop me to 2 meg @£18. surely this cannot be right, where do i go for help on this please??????????? please help!
