Just called VirginMedia with the intention of cancelling everything and going to Sky...

    Before the phonecall we had:
    TV size XL
    £68 per month
    Broadband size M (2mb)
Phone size L (Talk evenings & weekends)

    After the phonecall:
    TV size M (Freeview)
    Broadband size M (2mb)
    Phone size XL (Talk Unlimited)
    £19.95!

We only watch the freeview channels anyway as all the rest is dross other than some things from Sky One. The Sky One programs I will download/wait for Virgin, Lost Series 1-3 will be available from August. Also they are going to be adding free movies too at some point.

Customer services were extremely happy and I couldn't be happier. I may add Sky Sports in the future, even then it's cheaper than Sky.

BTW - the early cancellation no penanlty charge ONLY applies to TV, not broadband or phone - you will have to pay for cancelling those early as those services have not changed.

    Good money hunting folks,

mentat - Please could I ask what phone number you rang? Was it retentions or customer services or are they the same. We are paying more now than the deal I negotiated with ntl last month! £45 for xl broadband, L tv and L phone. Think I will try them again.

  • Just called Customer relations on 0800 0730591

Previous package was 2 mb bb,tv medium, line rental and free weekend calls for £35 pm. New price for exactly the same deal is £24 pm. Worth the 30 min wait. £ 132 per year in my pocket.

Also offered 4mb bb,Tv XL and unlimited phone for £31 but as I already have a £10 Virgin sim ( 300 mins + 300 texts) this was not the right option or me. It may be a pain getting thru but it is worth it.

I recommend you do the softly softly approach. Refer to the person by their first name, say you have been struggling to get thru for a week or so, E-mails promise a 48 hour response but remain unanswered etc , you keep getting cutoff or holding on for ages and see what they offer.Tell them Sky is out of order but you miss Sky One ( Lost, 24 etc)

    Good Luck

I'm coming to the end of my 3month half price offer soon. What excuse do I need to give retentions to get my offer extended?

Just phone and ask what they can offer for loss of sky one. Ask what the best deal for what you are on is and then tag on whatever else you want and see what they can do....

She went through about 6 offers with me until she found one I was interested ;)

Finally got around to ringing. Used option 2 (moving house and cancelling) as the correct number just said they were too busy and cut me off.

Only waited about 10 mins. I said I only watched Sky 1 and discovery but as sky 1 had gone £20.50 was a lot for discovery.

A few offers made but eventually got to TV XL for £1, with broadband and phone the original prices. Deal lasts as long as I keep the package the same.
