Heinz Farley's Baby Milk Discontinued!

Well Heinz....Thanks for the 10 months of cheap baby milk... Our little one had farleys at the hospital so we continued it when we came home. But common sense tells me that I shouldn't pay a company another £3 for what was supposed to be the same product... we're changing our name said the pack !
However Farley's has gone, and if you have gone and bought the new Nurture you have already changed your baby to another type of Formula.
For me, SMA Progress is 2 for £11 at Sainsbury's and as SMA is the second most popular milk thats good enough for me. So no more Farleys, sorry but as you discontinued my baby's product without notice please don't expect my loyalty in buying your new "supermilk". And as my family grows Heinz will no longer have my custom... i won't risk another child starting their milks when they withdraw them with so little care about their customers or the care of the children they are made for !
I am certain the new product Nurture is more expensive because it will involve more dusting as it sits rejected on the shelves. Commercial suicide by Heinz, whats next I ask... perhaps the rebranding of their beans with a snappy new name and a tin with a gap in the top that allows the methane to ferment in can instead of in the bowel !! and scraper so you can scrape the excess into the bin before you recycle.....and not to forget doubling the price !!
So in summary, another customer ( my daughter ) has defected to another brand and she seems extremely happy with the change.. so thanks again Heinz:T0 -

Very well said. Have you sent this to Heinz? I think they should be bombarded with complaints and boycotted until they scream....
Here's a link to email them,

I think they did a similar thing a few years ago. They introduced a new packaging system which had the scoops measured out beforehand in individual packets (or something like that). Of course in doing so they drastically reduced the actual quantity of product. I think there was a consumer uproar and they reversed the change. Maybe that's why they had that "committed to fair prices" sticker on the lid?"fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -

(and I just wanted to add can all the inconsiderate people on this thread please stop posting about 'breast is best' - that is not what this thread about! Before I had my lo I thought the use of formula was terrible and I was determined to breast feed. unfortunalty due to medical reasons I had to stop feeding my lo myself and I have felt guilty ever since and yes I know breast is best but my lo is happy and healthy- thank you. rant over)
I was lucky enough to be able to breast feed all three of my boys under very difficult circumstances. I get fed up with the "breast is best" anthem that many people chant. I generally ask them why? In most cases even the medical professionals cannot answer that question fully. Breast is normal simple as that. The ecologist published an article which gives much information about the difference between formula and breast milk. Intresting reading. As for the way many mums feel guilty when they have had to stop breast feeding. Again I ask why. In most cases they are loving parents that do their very best for their children. They way a child is fed for the first few months of their life feels very unimportant to me now when I look at my strapping 13 year old who is dithering over his options at school and eating far to much chocolate for my liking. I hope that does not sound to patronising.
The whole formula thing and the cost of it is very frustrating. Nestle are well known for giving free samples to women in developing nations. When their milk dries up they them start charging for it. They also train haealth visitors, put out a lot of promotional material telling mothers that it is really hard to breast feed etc. I feel that companies that have such marketing tactics are unlikly to worry about the effect of such huge price rises in formula.
Rant over
Do not feel guilty about not breast feeding, nurture your child, play with them and ciomunicate with them thats one of the major good things about breast feeding that you can do even if you are not breast feeding.
I feel very upset when I see a 6 month old sat on their own holding their own bottle. My 6 month olds were cuddled up to me as they breast fed we would play peek a boo with my top lots of physical contact. Thats the fun part of nursing that a lot of bottle feeders miss out on. IMO0 -
I saw some in my local LIDL for 4.19 still. That was on Saturday so I don't know if they are still going to keep the cost down for as long as possible.
I'm so glad I have just got my son on cows milk now though as I used Farleys because of the price!!!
Hope this helps someone.0 -
Good advice about emailing, but i don't think they care about my opinion....Wasted on deaf ears I suspect... I don't really care if they want to comitt commercial suicide... I was surprised how easy it was to change her milk... did my daughter complain...NOPE... Happy with Farley's and now happy with SMA
Don't complain.... just change the milk.. 90 % of babys don't use Farleys / Heinz...so 90% of babies are thriving and happy on another milk...I'm with the 90% now !!

I think i must be the only one who has been happy with the change in farleys prices as i have managed to save a fair few quid from this change, my daughter is on cows milk but I still buy powder for if we go out in the evening/staying at nannies and as a night time drink. Especially as she is still small for her age I prefer her to have this feed at night. She was on aptamil up until follow on and then I got her the cow and gate night milk but she didnt like it, this thread made me realise that if i could get farleys anywhere at the lower price a few tins would last me until I no longer need formula.
I found my local Budgens store selling it for £6 ish (always more expensive there on all milks) and tried it she loved it, went back today they have reduced the remaining stock to £4.99 so i have picked up 4 tins to last me. Once this is gone thats it I am no longer buying formula.
I have noticed though my daughter loves this farleys milk!! So although I can see people being upset over changing milks and the extra few quid I think it may be a problem for some getting their baby to like the taste of other milk rather than how their stomach copes as i am guessing from her reaction to it that it must be pretty tasty.
Anyone near a Budgens try checking there for the £4.99 tins.0 -
WOW!!!
I started this thread ages ago and I was so annoyed and impatient at the time that when I got no immediate reply I gave it up...
Just popped back and WOW! What a response.
Unfortunately like everything else prices going up SMA is now as expensive as Farley's Garnier Nutrice. But I think boots have SMA on 2 for £11...?
I was mostly annoyed at the hypocrisy of the brand. Almost like they lull you into a false sense of security and then land a bomb on you.
Something will have to give eventually with all these price increases... I think perhaps it will be the nations breasts... dropping off with us all wet nursing each others babies LOL! (pass on that I think...thrush, bleeding nipples, other babies & kids to mind etc etc...we can't all "just get on with it" unfortunately)
By the way... I'll hijack my own thread....anyone noticed the outrageous price increases in the Argos catalog? A wardrobe I bought was £139 last month is now £149...
Anyway...thanks to all for contributing to this thread! You're my wife now Dave.......0 -

There are strict laws relating to the composition of baby formula! The differences between the different brands are minimal!0 -

Well, I am pregnant with baby no2. I did breast feed baby no1 for 6 months the latter part mixed with formula. I will be breastfeeding for the first few weeks with my new baby, but as I will have an 18 month old running around by then, and breastfeeding requires HOURS and HOURS and HOURS of sitting still I won't have the time.
People who say 'breast is cheaper' is untrue. I got through about 8 breast pads a day. At a cost of £5 for 50, thats nearly as expensive as formula feeding. So i really don't think it saves money. It is also very important that people realise IT IS A MOTHERS PEROGATIVE to choose to breastfeed or not, and no one should be condemned for not doing it-especially if they physically cannot breastfeed. I didn't want to do it, but managed to grin and bear it.
I swapped my DS onto Hipp Organic at £5-£6 a box from SMA (at £7) at 6 months as a pal recommended it, and also because it was saving me £2 a pack. I must say my beautiful boy loves this milk, and has had no ill effects.
I would also recommend people give Hipp milk a go, it's probably the cheapest one now, and as its organic, also one of the best milks you can give your baby (ok, lets not go back to the breast is best please)
