Heinz Farley's Baby Milk Discontinued!

This is my first post on MSE since joining last month. I am so glad I found this discussion as I have been wondering why stocks of Farley's were running so low. I knew it was being replaced, but I didn't realise the new version would be more expensive. I naively thought the launch of Nurture was imminent because the price of Farley's dropped during recent weeks. The 250ml cartons, which normally cost around 49p, were as cheap as 35p in my local Tesco and I'm pretty sure my last tin was around £4 so I assumed stocks were being cleared quickly to make way for the new one. Instead we've had to put up with empty shelves and pointless trekking around shops to find it.
I finally ran out of Farley's Follow-on today, which my 17 month old son likes at breakfast and before bed. He's been drinking Farley's since he was 6 months old. My local Boots had no Heinz milk at all, so I went for the Hipp Organic Growing Up Milk instead. My son gulped it down this evening, so presumably he didn't mind the change but I do sympathise with anyone with much younger babies as peace of mind that a brand of milk suits them is really important.
I went on the Farley's website for the first time today and it doesn't show or promote their milk at all!
I certainly won't be buying Heinz milk from now on.0 -
Just to let you know I went to my local chemist this afternoon to get some baby bits
They still had the milk in at it was £5.49p in there so deff check your local chemist outMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!0 -
this has so annoyed me. after farleys going on about their commitment to fair prices grrr. what i am more annoyed about is that the leaflet in the farleys tins said farleys is changing not farleys is being discontinued and replaced by a brand spanking new expensive milk! my 2 month old loves farleys. we ended up running to asda and lidl yesterday and buying 12 tins. was reduced to £4 in asda. if i had known the price was going to rise this much i wouldnt have started her on farleys in the first place. grrrrrr
JUST WROTE TO WATCHDOG AND I ADVISE EVERYONE ELSE TO DO THE SAME!love you lots like jelly tots0 -
There were stacks on the shelves in lidl (Bridgend, South Wales ) this morning at the cheaper price.0

your son is old enough to be on cows milk, which is a lot cheaper?0 -
i saw this on monday when i went to tesco- i almost fainted when i saw the price! needless to say i didnt buy any, but as ds has almost run out i had to take a trip this morning to get some milk- was going to get the hipp organic but the shelves were totally empty of all hipp milk- methinks that hipp will see an increase in sales now as they are priced about the same as the farleys was.
had to go for cow n gate in the end- even that was about £1.50 more
really not happy about this- off to find an email address for watchdog2011- new year, new start.
January 2011 g/c- £150

just sent an email to watchdog and also to heniz- wonder if it will do any good?
i suppose if sales go down hugely then they will have no choice but to lower the price back?2011- new year, new start.

Perhaps the costs of their raw ingredients have increased dramatically? It's not only baby milk prices that have gone up but pretty much everything!nothing to see here, move along...0

My youngest is nearly 5 so a long time since I used formula, but I do agree they have got a flipping cheek to do that with the prices!
My first baby has SMA but my second couldn't have it, he kept bringing it back and getting constipated so we switched to cow and gate so I can understand how frustrating it must be to find a brand that suits your baby, only for it to go up by more than 50%!
I wonder if baby clinics still have the old stuff? it is usually slightly cheaper there to start with and if they have a few cases left?
If you do have to change brands, I think you are going to need to make the change gradually by mixing the two together, increasing the amount of the new one each time, to prevent upset tummies.
I wonder if Heinz have actually realised that by forcing parents to switch to thier new fancy version, they may cause lots of stomach upsets, as the babies are getting a load of prebiotics etc that their tummies won't be used to. They should definitely have told you the old one was being discon, then you could prepare.0 -

there was a sticker stuck to the tops of the seals inside the tins saying that the name was changing- nothing about the price increase though! none of the stickers said when the change was happening, and to be honest i just assumed that i would continue using the milk when the name change came into force, i didnt realise that they would be upping the price so much2011- new year, new start.
