Thanks for the warning! I just told my partner that we needed to get another tin of Farley's, I wouldn't have been impressed to find the price increased by that much! I shall be off to Lidl in the morning to try and stock up.
My little boy started off on SMA but it makes him constipated and he brings much of it back up. He's also tried Aptimil but is much happier on Farley's.
I will be contacting Watchdog to complain.
As for the "breast is best" comments - we all know this, but some people really struggle to breastfeed and some, including myself, are never able to get there at all. I was gutted that I wasn't able to breastfeed my little boy and still get upset when I'm constantly bombarded with posters and leaflets telling me of the benefits of breastfeeding.
Some peole just don't have a choice in the matter and they should not be made to feel more guilty than they already do.0 -
i've switched my 4 month old from farleys to sma white, and although i wasn't best pleased at having to change formulas i have to say that sma white seems to agree alot better with her reflux.0

I think that the smaller they are the better that they adapt to changes. My DD was only on formula milk to try and wean her of breastfeeding at 15 months as she didn't enjoy cow's milk. Even though she is old enough to drink cow's milk I think we'll try the Hip Organic when we have used the Farley's up as she doesn't eat very much. I might need to buy some ear plugs for the transition though as she knows exactly what she wants!Children need love, especially when they don't deserve it!0

I have seen Farleys in Lidls before...think £5...the increase is disgusting. I was only complaining how Cow and gate has gone up since birth of baby now 9 mths....only by about £1.50 max though1
I did once change formula to organic and then back again. Slight upset tummy but nothing major...those of you considering changing I would suggest you consult health visitor.
As for the breast is best debate...yep agree but so is making the right feeding choices for your personal circumstances. and if the choice is formula then we should be able to make a informed choice and not be made to feel guilty.
Roll on 1 year when he can have cows milk as a main drink!0 -
Like everyone here, i too am disgusted at the £3 increase in Farleys. I advise everyone to ring the Heinz helpline number 0800 212 991 and tell them what you think.
I've just been to Lidl in Sheffield and they have loads in stock and said that they planned to keep stocking it at £4.67 - bargain - i've just bought 10 tins, should take me up until my son is over 12 months!0 -
Very brave of you, Bernadette. So 98% of Swedish mothers breastfeed? That's an impressive statistic and goes to show that with the proper support most women can successfully breastfeed.
I agree that "I don't want to" is not a good enough reason to bottlefeed your child. IMO that's almost as bad as drinking through pregnancy or smoking infront of your child. But women who genuinely can't breastfeed should not be stigmatised, and I do agree that making formula prescription only would provide more support for both breastfeeding *and* bottlefeeding mothers.
When I switched my boy to the bottle at 7 months I chose Farleys because (a) it wasn't manufactured by Nestle and (b) it was the cheapest. Don't think I'll be buying it for child #2 if it's now £8 a tin.0 -
So what if 98% of Swedish Mothers breastfeed. They obviously get a hell of alot of support to do that.
The thread is about Tins of Milk jumping up by £3 a Tin - that's a very big increase and I can see why the Mums are annoyed. I would be too if I used that brand of Milk.
Maybe Heinz will see they have made a mistake, when people boycott them and buy the next cheapest.
For me, we couldn't afford £14 a week for the formula so we had to choose Cows Milks.
And buying all the Tins out of the Shop is very selfish for the other Mums.:cool:0 -
my local boots had the ready to drink tiny cartons when i was in yesterday.love you lots like jelly tots0

I was waiting for someone to stick their 'breast is best' boob in.
This is not about that so butt out.
It is because of the breast is best brigade that baby formula is such a rip off in the first place. Laws to stop retailers running promotions on formula and awarding points are unfair and hypocritical especially as the government give out vouchers to low income women so they can get their formula cheap.
ANyway, I nearly cried in my local Tesco (Batley) when I saw the cost of Nurture (the Farley's replacement).
It's all a massive cartel. Cow & Gate and Aptamil are owned by one company which only leave SMA, Farley's and Hipp. Not much choice I say.
I have phoned the Farley's helpline and have been fobbed off.
Can I have the details of this watchdog ppl are referring to?
Also, you can complain to Heinz online via http://www.farleyscloserbynature.co.uk/content/contact_us.aspx
We should bombard them and boycott."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -
