I put the panny on french loaf setting this afternoon and it takes six hours so has only just finished.

It smells lovely and seems to have risen well so we are waiting impatiently for it to cool so we can slice it and try some.

I have decided that if I keep rushing to buy shop bread then no one apart from me and DH will eat the home made stuff so will try to make a loaf each day and try out some of the recipes that came with the panny.

Has anyone any favourites they suggest I try?

I will not be tempted by the remoska - at least not till DH has got over the shock of the panny!

    Hester

Big hug and please try to look after yourself as well as everybody else.

Welcome back, Judith. Hope the break did you good.

Elona - our favourite recipe is one that I just use the BM for mixing and kneading the dough but bake the bread in the oven. It's really a recipe for soft rolls but I just make two loaves from the mix; they each last DH and I around two days.

10 fl. ozs room temperature water
12 ozs white bread flour and 5 ozs wholemeal bread flour ( I use Dove's Organic which is delicious).
    3 tbsp sunflower oil
    2 tbsp milk powder
    2 tbsp sugar
    1.5 tsps salt
    1.5 tsps easy-bake yeast

Just shove it all in the BM - liquids first - and set the BM to the 'dough' programme. I then take it out and let it rise in the tin for about an hour, then divide it to make two loaves (they're very rustic-looking!) which I then leave on the baking sheet for another hour or so to rise and then bake in the oven on Gas 5 for 25 minutes. It never fails and is always delicious - my DH says it's the best bread he has ever tasted. Praise indeed! All I know is that it costs about 16p per loaf at the moment but I know I could get that down because I've been buying my Dove's flour at the Co-op and I now know it's a lot cheaper at Tesco! I really don't like our local Tesco superstore but one of the Express stores has just opened nearby so I hope to buy it in there from now on.

Well, off to watch Mary Queen of Shops - see you all later. I wish I had some choccie - it would take my thieving eyes off the Turkish Delight and Coconut Ice I bought in Devon for DH!

Have just tried the french bread and it is amazing! The crust is really flaky and the inside is almost fluffy it is so soft.

Considering that I had to guess the weight of the flour I was not expecting a good result but even DH and DD are impressed with it.

If I can get a lift to Tesco tomorrow I am going to smuggle home a small pair of scales so I can do things properly tomorrow.

It even has a recipe for brioche - I am so excited - I cannot beleive the difference in the quality of the bread, especially as I was fairly happy with the results given by my old Morphy Richards.

Have taken a ham shank out of the freezer to thaw overnight and soaked some dried peas so I can make DH the pea and ham soup he loves tomorrow in the slow cooker.

Just realised I made poor DH sound like an ogre! He really does not mind me buying stuff as long as we can afford it and will use it - but I promised him I would not buy new stuff to clutter up the place while we are trying to sell it.

    Hiya!:hello:

Grannybroon Only just read your post. Yes the school is a C of E school for girls and the uniform is 'regulation'. It is a dark blue with various stripes, touches etc. The initial outlay is expensive but I bought everything big :rotfl: so it should fit for a while.
This morning I did some shopping in Mr T's and then spent the afternoon finishing off some records for school. I'm not working tomorrow but I've been put on a course in the morning . So after that I'm going to return home to clean the house. I'm then working for the rest of the week and monday and tuesday when we break up for the summer.:j
    Have a good evening.:D

    Evening everyone,
i`m now perched in front of CSI with a huge packet of digestives:D
I`ll be off to bed soon though as i`ve another early start tomorrow, i`m going to try and set the clock for 415 am and see if i still get to w*rk on time:D

Kathy - i envy you the remoska i`ll manage to get one eventually but i want one NOW!:D

Elona - The french loaf from the panny is lovely isn`t it, i don`t make it too often as we usually polish the lot off at once:o it`s gorgeous toasted with garlic butter on to go with something like paella.

Essex Girl - So glad to hear your cat has turned up safe & sound.

Donny - I`ve not tried the Allinsons yeast, i use the hovis in the box which contains 3x2 sachets, it`s 60p for the box so not the cheapest but i`ve stuck to it as the panny likes it. Come to think of it the only time i`ve had a bad result is when i`ve altered something. Last time it threw a wobbler was when i used Asda yeast:rolleyes:

Have a good evening peeps (whats left of it)
((((HUGS)))) for Kaat Lady - hope the leg is better soon (try not to beat your DH too hard with the loose floorboard as revenge) :D
    Night everyone.

Elona - I'm so glad the bread turned out so well. My DH is the same - he hates the thought that I'll buy a gadget that I end up only using once which happened with the George Forman (didn't like the space it took up) and a deep-fat fryer (didn't like the soggy results) ; oh, and a coffee maker (didn't like the fact that the coffee was only ever lukewarm!) I just know I'll use the Remoska all the time because it's so easy to clean, it will save energy costs and you can cook a whole meal in it!

I use the Allinson's yeast and I've also used the Hovis one in the past, but my BM didn't like Sainsbury's own for some reason, and I gave it two chances before I threw it out!

Well, I've done a bit of crochet while I watched the TV and spoken to DH on the phone so I think I'll make tracks for my bed now.

Sleep well, everyone, and I'll see you in the morning.
