to me it seems silly to freeze the filling as it may go soggy, lose its texture etc, why not just freeze the bread and buy some long shelf life fillings like canned tuna, patte or sweet things like nutella, pb butter

I used to make sandwiches with frozen bread. Wrap them in cling film and take them to work. When it was time to eat them a few hours later the bread was nicely de-frosted and moist. :)

I've never once thought about freezing bread at all. OH and I always buy a loaf and have good intentions of using it but we never do so it becomes bird food.

we have about 3 loaves of bread in the freezer right now! i tend to freeze it straight away rather than wait for it to go a bit stale, we just get slices out as and when needed

  • Frozen bread is great for making sandwiches, especially if your butter or marg is a little bit firm. Saves gouging great big holes in the bread

Just remember to slice before you freeze, and don't pack it in too tightly, else it'll all freeze into one big lump :o

I always freeze my bread. I live alone and it would go to waste otherwise.

But freezing sandwiches, no thanks! My parents once froze a whole term's worth of chocolate spread sandwiches when I was a kid and mum was working full time. They were vile. And of course they all had to be eaten. :(

  • I have frozen them before and regretted it, mine always came out lumpy and soggy, I would much rather eat them fresh! :)

Funnily enough l made our sandwiches out of frozen bread this morning, l did worry my little ones sandwiches would still be frozen but my bread was soft by 11am and still cold when l ate it at 12.

Things like cheese, meat (not previously frozen) would be okay all frozen but maybe you could compromise and make sandwiches with eggs, chicken etc out of frozen bread?

    Happy moneysaving all.
  • When I was a teenager (ahem, twenty years ago) I made cheese rolls every Sunday night, popped them in the freezer and took one out every day for my packed lunch. Of course, I also accepted extra dinner money - money saving from a young age! ( along with keeping my bus money and walking 2 miles home!)
