Freezing Sandwiches

Hi

Could you give me some ideas of what sandwiches I could make and then freeze? I have just got 3 loaves of bread cheap with the intention of making sandwiches to freeze, but could only think of cheese spread and also ham with sauce. Think my husband and children would not be too pleased with only these 2 choices !!!

Thanks,
Bek

Instead of sarnies, how about using some of the bread up on a bread and butter pudding?

We freeze cheese sandwiches. My husband sometimes cooks chicken and freezes that already made up in sandwiches. They take a little longer to defrost.

There's no reason not to freeze things like jam or peanut butter butties (or meat paste I guess although I don't know if that says do not freeze on the jars since we don't use it.)

If I freeze cheese butties, I often take out salad or a banana to put in when it's defrosted.

I used to make up batches of sarnies to freeze. I think you can freeze just about anything - as long as you don't put the salad on :D Soggy tomato just doesn't do it on a butty.

It obviously depends on what your family like - cheese and meat varieties will be fine. I have to admit to never having frozen an egg mayo butty so can't vouch for them when defrosted :)

In the summer when my children used to have a school packed lunch I used to freeze their sandwiches. By the time lunch comes they were defrosted.

Other than that how about making breadcrumbs for coatings and freezing them?

  • I am thinking about starting to freeze my sandwiches on a sunday and taking one out of the freezer every morning. But I wondered if I could use chicken or whether that should always be reheated?

I couldnt find the frozen sandwich link... I am useless at getting the MSE search to work...sorry!

    hiya

if the cooked chicken is not frozen befroe it is frozen for the sarnies then there should be no problem.

it's fine to eat it without reheating as long as once it is cooked it's not doube frozen and defrosted. it's all about avoiding danger zones of temperatures where bacteria can breed.

go forth and make your sandwiches...don't froget the dijon!!

  • Ive done this many times with leftover roast chicken from sunday roast:D

When DD was on packed lunches, I used to buy reduced decent Warburtons loaves at 10p and make a whole loaf of sarnies such as cheese, marmite, ham, chicken etc and freeze them in bags for each day. A loaf would normally do 2 weeks worth. Never had any problems.
