A few thoughts here. I travel very often from Tyneside to enjoy London as a tourist.

    1. Travel with an oystercard ... This is always cheaper than anything else. OK the £3 initial charge is down the drain, but it lasts for life. No big deal.

    2. For shows....... check out lastminute.com great value on £20 deals for a show and a meal.

    3. For accomodation travelodge (I am a great fan) but book yonks in advance or check Ebay for unwanted nights or easyhotel (spartan but clean).

    4. Don't even think about taking a car to London. It is a liability. Use trainline or megabus coupled with oyster and London is your lobster!

    5. Go to Dalston market......a rattlin' good experience.

Give it some welly and enjoy the time there.

Can I use an Oyster Card to get from London Luton airport to central London?

    Thanks
    Val :)

No! Is the short answer. Luton is in Bedfordshire, which is many miles away.

  • I just wanted to say that you dont have to just stick to London... you can get out to Stonehenge, Windsor and so much more with an organised sightseeing tour.

I have tried children/students can get a discount also. An oyster card wont get you from luton to london either... at least not the last time i checked!
  • Hi Panda,

I'm attaching a couple of links for free stuff in London.

Watch This Space takes place in the theatre space in front of the National Theatre and there's free entertainment most days. http://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/?lid=37060

London is Free is a great website where free and super-cheap events are advertised. http://www.londonisfree.com/

    Have a great time.

thanks for the Devon suggestion but no :rotfl: I don't fancy a 4 hour journey.
Having lived in Cornwall for 4/5 years I think I'll pass............ for this is a 3/4 day trip to LONDON......no offence is meant, so don't take any.

Westy, ...............I'm scaredy at the eye......but tell me where you got the duck tour tickets pwease.
I am still considering the eye, but I do need to know if Nels has been on it as she knows 1st hand how knee knocking I can be (we had a 4th floor room last week and she told me all about the fab view as I quaked in the room :rotfl:)

I can confirm I'm all excited about going to the big smoke!:T

Frequently travel into London, and used to work there so here's my tips.

DON'T, under any circumstances go to the Science Museum. They've tried to turn it into an indoor theme park and they're ruined it. Packed solid at any time kids aren't in school and rubbish. Avoid at all costs.

London Eye as already said is a must. You must book in advance and pick the tickets up when you get there. If you go on the Eye then the London Aquarium is right next door and is a good experience, 1000 times better than the Science Museum. From there it's a nice walk to Parliament Square, then Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden, (in that order). A great day out.

oh I've eaten in Porters many years ago, good choice Westy! and Covent Garden is great for just wandering around looking.

As for the duck tour I do hope you are asking Quackers to be your tour guide :)
