The Ironing Board

I don't do ironing I think it's a waste of time... we have a gas powered tumble drier and it gets the clothes dry fast, pull them out and shake and hang or fold and they are ready to wear.
We do have an iron it was less than a fiver from Tesco, just as good as the £50 jobs I have had before does steam etc, on the odd occasion I have to give in and iron something it works fine.
As for eating chocolate well I am pretty good at that LOL...0 -
I hate ironing but really like the finish of ironed clothes & sheets. I am thinking of splashing out on a pressurised steam generator iron but can't decide whether the extra cost is worth it, also there is such a huge choice and variation in price. Has anyone bought one recently? what is your advice? Thanks0

would it be too cheeky to ask if they know which steam generator is recommended as a best buy? thanks in advance.
Most libraries have copies which you can look at, that's what I always do so you can see current and back issues:DThe birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
I have to admit i only iron clothes when i intend to wear them. I have so many clothes that my hallway now resemebles a sweat factory to iron them all would put me to sleep.0

on my last use of our iron it wouldn't heat up on the no.1 heat - i could put my hand on the plate, and when i put water in and then went to use it , well, the water poured out of the iron base, I had a giant puddle on my ironing board. So i took it to the supermarket yesterday to get a replacement/refund.
The guy plugged my iron in, and you have never seen an iron so outperform itself. It heated up and down, it didn't leak at all, it even threw out an impressive burst of steam on demand. i watched for an agonising 10 minutes as he tried all the different heat positions, and kept levelling the iron to see if water would come out. not a drop.
To then add to the embarrasment i was told that even if there had been something wrong with it they couldn't have took it back anyway because the plate was dirty - my husband always irons too hot and bits melt on the plate.
and then, i had to go and do some shopping and go back again to collect the cooled down iron, which was still too hot to put in a bag and so had to carry it around in my hand until my husband suggested i put it in the trolley. :mad:0 -
It's not just about irons - it's about ironing boards too! Most of the cheap ones seem to have a perforated metal surface which - even with a new cover - can leave a pattern on your ironing!
Someone told me that a Brabantia board is a much better quality than say a Minky.
Does it make a difference? Any experience on this one?0 -
Domena steam press SP400
I have been given a second hand one of these. Is this press supposed to generate lots of steam? I can only hear the occasional "woosh"
The heat seems very dry and does not take the creases out even on the hotest setting. The water resevoir does not seems to go down, but I did not do a huge pile of ironing because the results were so poor.
Any advice welcome0 -

You did have the plug switched on, didn't you? Check the socket with something portable like a lamp or a hairdryer to check it works...
always check the obvious.
now you know to clean the iron plate before you take it back to the shop if it still isn't working.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
