The Ironing Board

We all hate ironing but it has to be done. Avoid gaining a constant basket full by always ironing everything! Don't put off ironing things you hardly wear... iron those items first...leave the work shirts until last as you know they cant be left.
Put on a good cd or iron to the Tv... set mini goals, 3 shirts before the ads or so many items per song. Theres nothing more satisfying than and empty basket and a wardrobe full of clothes)

I quite like ironing but it took such a long time as there were always lots of my husbands shirts to do. So for 7 years we paid someone else to do it, great! However our ironing laydee got ill and stopped taking in ironing, so we invested in a table top steam press and it revolutionalised our lives. Its so easy and quick, we both use it and bedding (even superkingsize duvet covers and flat sheets) take no time at all.0

Tip 1 - Leave in washing machine for 1-2 hrs after the cycle has finished.
Tip 2 - Hang on indoor airer - avoid washing line at all costs!
Tip 3 - Allow the OH to take off airer, this produces maximum untidyness in the laundry basket.
Tip 4 - Put in bedroom with remainder of washing pile.
Tip 5 - Leave pile to 'settle' for 3 to 4 weeks minimum.
Tip 6 - Wait for a special occasion to takle the ironing. eg. parents visiting, holiday away etc.
Tip 7 - Don't listen to me!
Thats what I do! :rotfl:0 -

Can anyone advise please? I've bought a new metallised cover for my ironing board and have found it sticky when touched with the hot iron! At the moment I'm using a damp cloth between the board and the ironing, Has anyone else had this problem and does the stickiness wear off eventually? Tempted to go back to old faithful, which just had a tiny hole in:(The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

Can you not put your old one over the new one?The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Sorry just noticed your reply! It's worth a try I suppose but kind of defeats the object doesn't it? Plus I've already put the old one, rolled up, in the carboot thinking if we need 'picnic seating' (insulated!) under travel rug, or in case DH ever has to crawl under car etc. Nothing gets wasted if I can help it!:D
Thanks again, I thought that I'd killed this thread:o:TThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

Firstly, need to replace an ailing iron, so I'm seriously thinking of investing in a steam generator. Better half thinks I'm nuts spend > 170 quid on an iron, but I'm convinced I'm doing the right thing. I don't like buying rubbish, so I've identified the Tefal GV8330 as one of the best purchases around. Sorry, can't post a link. Thoughts and opinions welcome.
Second, I'm struggling to get some stains out of my formal shirts. Mostly the stains are under the armpits and look rather unsightly. I've tried soaking in Vanish - no good - and I've just run a load through using Dr Beckmann's Colour Run Remover, also to no avail. Any suggestions on what to try next?
All help and suggestions gratefully received.0 -
Instead of an iron we have a steam press and it's a Godsend, so quick and easy to use it's been worth every penny0

hi, has anyone on here subscribed to 'which' magazine?
would it be too cheeky to ask if they know which steam generator is recommended as a best buy? thanks in advance.
