  • Does anyone use a remoska? I'm not using mine now I'm not doing potato based things and I would like to use it more if i can. I was thinking about doing a giant oopsie in it but the remoska might be a bit hot for it.
    Any suggestions?

This was the recipe I made up last night and it was so yummy my kids asked for more ( which is a first :rotfl: ) .

Fry in a pan - chicken strips (until white).
Add a sliced leek - and continue frying until soft.
Then add 1/2 pint of vegetable stock, using - "Kallo" organic vegetable stock cubes (holland and barrat - buy one get one free at the moment smile.gif).
    Add some diced swede.
Add a frozen vegtable mix ( i used carrots and brocklie).
A dash of cream + a teaspoon of butter.
    mixed herbs.
    salt and pepper

I threw mine in the slow cooker :D .

Swede is quite high in carbs - 3 times as much as sweetcorn, in fact!

    otherwise, well done!

just as well my other half ate most the swede bits then :o .

I am following the Dr Dahlqvists method - she writes we can have vegtables , am I correct ? She does not mentioning avoiding swede ?
    Kindness costs nothing :)

omg just read that a onion is 8g RAW , a swede is 5g RAW.

does the carb content go up when cooked ?

  • there are lists not far back of 'allowed' veg.

basic rules of low carbing are no peas, limited carrots, limited onions, no swede, potato or parsnip, have yellow or green peppers rather than red, no sweetcorn........................

i think it might because food (except rice and pasta) gets more 'concentrated' when cooked as water evaporates. so a 100g steak weighs less than 100g when cooked. ;)

Yes Dr. D's plan is much easier to follow, it will not produce the dramatic speed of weight loss that Atkins can but it is sustainable. I've had no problem maintaining my weight and am now drinking wine regularly and not gaining weight.

In message 864 in this thread I list the veggies I've been eating since January and my weight loss averaged 2.25lbs a week. I'm now down to 11st and for the last little while have been eating a lot of runner beans (they seem to like wet weather) I've also eaten loads of carrots cauliflower and swede. I haven't eaten potatoes, parsnips, sweet potatoes (I do miss sweet potatoes and will experiment soon to see what happens next time Lidl's have then on special offer) or sweetcorn.

You will see from Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Diet that some people recommend a much more severe diet for Diabetics to keep glycaemic index very low. But see what suits you. If you find as I did that you can steadily lose around 2lb a week with Dr D's more generous plan then I'd say stick with it. The fewer foods you have to ban or limit the easier it is to plan your meals.

    hiya mirry:)

I am following Dr D also - she doesn't have any veg on her avoid list apart from corn. Her program is less strict than Atkins induction. Which is why I like it lol :D Obviously within that, some vegetables are higher in carbs than others, notably root vegetables and the sweeter tasting vegetables. So I guess there is a trade-off between how strict you want to be in terms of carbs and how fast you want/need results. Speaking for myself, I am happy with Dr D's more relaxed aproach coz like Ted I can't be bothered to measure or count stuff lol:rolleyes::D and I feel for me it will be easier to incorporate into my life longterm, y'know? So it's horses for courses i guess:)

  • What really matters is the glycemic load that a portion contains. Some stuff you eat more (corn on the cob for example) than you would spinach so simply comparing the Glycemic index rather than the total impact of a typical portion can be misleading.
see this list to see the difference between GI and GL
There is a better list somewhere but I can't find it at the moment.

I have been following the plan ,but have not eaten any chocolate or nuts or seeds yet . So Im sure some swede will not hurt my plans .
I still have not weighed myself :o . But in the first 6 days lost 3.5 lb :D .

I find it strict enough without being even more strict
    Kindness costs nothing :)

    Hello lovelies

Well I have to say I really enjoyed my Sainsburyc Scotch beef burger last night.. and only 1g carb:D To go with it we did some courgettes baked in cream and cheese and they came out quite good. Really quick and tasty and I imagine lots of other veggies would suit the same treatment.

Got some pork fillet and pak choi for tonight, so might do a Chinese type affair with ginger, tamari and sesame oil... and the madantory chilli:D

Had a good night's sleep so feeling almost human today lol

Have a good day everyone
