so is it important that we eat plenty of fat to loose the weight ?

How does this work exactly ?
Is it all to do with blood sugars ?

This is the perfect excuse to eat 2 packs of pork scratchings in front of the tv tonight !
• Do I need to check with my doctor or anything before I start etc or is this diet classed as safe for everyone?
This is what Dr Dalhqvist has to say on the subject.
Research shows that it is not dangerous to increase the amount of fat and protein in the diet.

A low carbohydrate diet is perfect for people with type 2 diabetes, because blood sugar is stabilised and variations limited.
Please note that if you are on medication for your diabetes the change should be made gradually, in order to avoid low blood sugar, checking blood sugar levels and reducing medication accordingly. It is recommended that you do this in consultation with your doctor or nurse.

Most overweight people today have tried to diet by lowering the fat content in their foods without succeeding.
These people could try the low carbohydrate diet.

Be aware also that Dr Davis of the Heartscanblog promotes low carb eating very strongly for those with heart disease

And Dr McCleary of the Brain trust program encourages low carb eating for optimal brain function and as a possible way of lowering Alzhiemer's risk factors This article explains in greater detail why low carb eating is good for your brain.
Brain Evolution and Why it is Meaningful Today to Improve Our Brain Health
.

A recent trial comparing low fat, low carb and meditterainean diets found the low carb (even though it wasn't really even as low carb as Dr D's plan and that is more generous than Atkins early stages) produced the best results for measures of good health. Dr Briffa discusses that trial here.

I THINK i understand that eating carbs raise the blood sugars which then makes our body produce insulin to lower the blood sugar - then our body stores the Insulin as FAT  . ( IS THIS CORRECT ?)
The 11 Critical Conclusions of Good Calories, Bad Calories:

1. Dietary fat, whether saturated or not, does not cause heart disease.
2. Carbohydrates do, because of their effect on the hormone insulin. The more easily-digestible and refined the carbohydrates and the more fructose they contain, the greater the effect on our health, weight, and well-being.
3. Sugars—sucrose (table sugar) and high fructose corn syrup specifically—are particularly harmful. The glucose in these sugars raises insulin levels; the fructose they contain overloads the liver.
4. Refined carbohydrates, starches, and sugars are also the most likely dietary causes of cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, and the other common chronic diseases of modern times.
5. Obesity is a disorder of excess fat accumulation, not overeating and not sedentary behavior.
6. Consuming excess calories does not cause us to grow fatter any more than it causes a child to grow taller.
7. Exercise does not make us lose excess fat; it makes us hungry.
8. We get fat because of an imbalance—a disequilibrium—in the hormonal regulation of fat tissue and fat metabolism. More fat is stored in the fat tissue than is mobilized and used for fuel. We become leaner when the hormonal regulation of the fat tissue reverses this imbalance.
9. Insulin is the primary regulator of fat storage. When insulin levels are elevated, we stockpile calories as fat. When insulin levels fall, we release fat from our fat tissue and burn it for fuel.
10. By stimulating insulin secretion, carbohydrates make us fat and ultimately cause obesity. By driving fat accumulation, carbohydrates also increase hunger and decrease the amount of energy we expend in metabolism and physical activity.
11. The fewer carbohydrates we eat, the leaner we will be.

I think points 8 9 and 10 summarise the research findings he details in his book. You may find listening to his 75minutes talk here is worth the time.
