the fat keeps you satisfied and feeling full for longer but most importantly is the fuel your body needs to give you energy
if you had very few carbs and very little fat - there would be nothing to burn
kinda like trying to drive a car on an empty tank

what would happen in this case is our bodies would use protein which is hard to break down for energy and basically our bodies would start eating themselves by breaking down our muscles instead

having a high fat ratio is a fundemental rule of low carbing - which is why we bang on so much about understanding the principals of any diet or WOE you choose to do - its really incredibly important - without trying to sound to preachy !!

seriously you must read and understand why your doing what your doing to stay well healthy and safe IMO

so is it important that we eat plenty of fat to loose the weight ?

How does this work exactly ?
Is it all to do with blood sugars ?

Hi mirry:) I'm not an expert in this at all, but my understanding is that eating fat is what makes us feel full and therefore less likely to snack/eat between meals. More to the point, eating more fat and less carbs means that your body will be forced to burn fat instead of glucose (from carbs) for energy and this results in weight loss.

So long as we have a high carb intake - this elevates insulin levels to reduce blood sugar, which in turn causes us to feel hungry. But it also hinders the burning of stored fat, because the body will burn carbs for energy before it will burn fat - if it's given the choice. This is the key to the low-carb approach.

Lol I probably haven't mind a great deal of sense there!:o:D I'm sure Ted will be along in a minute to set me straight:D

Had bacon and mushrooms for breakfast and about to go out shopping with dd.

Nice to know I can treat us to a meal out and still keep to the plan.

    Nando's ratatouille is gorgeous!!!!

Still do not dare weigh myself after nearly eight weeks! Just trying to make low carb a habit and an automatic way of eating that I stay on without having to think about it.

I THINK i understand that eating carbs raise the blood sugars which then makes our body produce insulin to lower the blood sugar - then our body stores the Insulin as FAT  . ( IS THIS CORRECT ?)

Sazbo , you have written basically that I just realised ,lol.

    Today I had ;

full fat yogurt made into a smoothie with raspberries.

Tuna, in tomato/onion/bamboo shoots stir fry.
    Kindness costs nothing :)

That's kind of how I look at it Elona. I think the more it feels automatic, the more chance I have of sticking to it long term. I've not been to Nando's, I must try it.

lol no worries:D I think the insulin causes the excess sugar from carbs to be stored as fat... I think!:D

When I first started low carbing and posting on this thread I was told by the ladies to go away and read up on the subject and give myself a knowledge of how it worked. At the time I thought this was an odd answer and a snotty answer too.But I took their advice and went away and googled the subject and read as much as I could to learn how the effect of low carbing affected my body and the best way to optomise my weight loss. Now I'm 5 weeks in and I have a reasonable working knowledge of what to eat and what not to eat and what effects I will have on my body and also how much weight I am liable to lose. Also that weight gain/loss can fluctuate due to body changes.I know I can lose 1lb one day and put it back on the next day and have eaten exactly the same food both days! Its easy to be disheartened but if you know they might come then its easier to accept

Sazzy totally off topic but is Gillette your OH? I'm dense when it comes to picking these things up and might be totally wide of the mark.So please dont be offended if I'm wrong:o

Yes he is hun, so you're not being dense at all:D xx It's rather handy coz I get to use him as a guinea pig for all my low-carb recipe testing... and amazingly he's still alive!! Can get a bit confusing tho using a badger as a guinea pig, who sometimes gets referred to as a hamster, but that's another story...!:D :rotfl:

Phew Sazzy at least I got something right for a change:rotfl:

As for Gilly being a guineapig the same could be said for my OH as the poor petal gets all my experiments served up to him and rarely balks. But on the positive side he's lost as much weight as I have so we must be both doing something right:T :rotfl:
