awww Gillette dont go we'd miss you!!
Can I just say here please that yes I agree reading is helpful as you learn how the diet works and how to make it work for you.But some people havent got the time/money to buy all the books that contain relevant information. As this is a support thread couldnt we share our knowledge as much as we can as come on lets be honest books can be very hard going sometimes and its easier to absorb the knowledge in normal language than in medical jargon.I dont mean to upset anyone by these comments I'm just trying to help gillette and I know how much Teds posts with links to various articles have helped me to grasp what I should be doing
Well yesterday was day10 of being on Dr D's eating plan and I think I've got the knack of it now.
Brekkie was 2 sausage,1 fried egg and some tinned tomatoes
Lunch was 2 slices of ham spread with cream cheese
Tea was Pork chop topped with cooked apple and cheese with sprouts and cauli
I dont know how you lot do it with the booze as I darent imbibe again as its frightening what weight I'll gain!:D

re books, the IPD is a paperback - it costs about a fiver. there is NO medical jargon in it, as it is pretty much a diary of 2 women who lost 5 stone each following a low carb diet.
the first few chapters are almost like a novel, except that they get you thinking about why you have excess weight and why you want to lose it - all vital in getting that mental 'switch' into a new way of eating.
it has recipes, ideas for how to cope with parties/weddings/dinner parties etc, a list of supplements to take and the basic groundrules.
I re-read my copy every couple of months to keep me focused. Only takes me a few days.
apart from the accompanying cookbook, i don't own any other diet books. frankly, it's worth £500, not £5 to me.0 -
Well, for what it's worth, I think everyone here has given really fantastic advice :T 'Information is power', so the saying goes. The better informed we are about what we are doing, the more likely we are to make the right choices and stick to them in the long term.
And it goes without saying, there are different ways of going about that. I love reading up all the theory behind food and nutrition, but then I'm a bit of an anorak lol:o But in the very best traditions of MSE - it doesn't have to cost anything - there is stacks of info on the net, for free, and books can be loaned from the library. All it really costs is the time we are prepared to devote to reading it. And as Tinker says, it's well worth the investment. Also, hearing people's personal stories on this thread is hugely motivating for me - it makes me realise that it can and does work - and that my struggles are not mine alone... I'm sure we all have our own personal demons when it comes to why, what and how we eat... but together we are stronger, right guys?
So I guess what I'm ramblingly trying to say is take all the info going, in whatever way, shape or form. Do what works for you.
And gilly badge - you ain't going anywhere. Slowly, slowly, catchy [strike]badger[/strike] monkey;)
Right, back to the important stuff:D Breakfast - cheese on a buttered slice of compressed hamster bedding and 2 slices of salami. Lunch will be ham salad plus the last of my h/m coleslawDinner - not sure yet - but probably involving tinned salmon or sardines and broccoli.
I'm off to the library at lunchtime to borrow Gary Taube's The Diet Delusion:D Hey Ted - do I get a gold star for that?:D:D
Have a lovely day everyone.
Much love,

Thanks people.
I am not a reader. I am out of the house from 7am until 7:30pm at least and if I were to read anything I have loads of work things I should be reading.
If loads of reading is what this diet takes then it's another reason for me to not do it.
My carbs are low.....that is definitely not the issue.
I read that you need to increase fat intake. I was doing this with mayo and cheese before. I'm trying to do it with meat now.
Gotta run to meeting so talk more later.Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.

Hi everyone!
I'd second Tinkerbell's recommendation of the IPD book! It's very easy to read and I keep dipping in and out of it now, reading about how they felt each day makes me realise I'm not alone, it's like they're holding your hand! I took it shopping with me when I stocked up so I knew I was buying the right foods, and it gave me ideas for new things that I wouldn't have thought of buying!
I'm on Day 3 and I feel a LOT better than yesterday! Whoop! I felt oddly indifferent to the tuna melt my BF made for his lunch, I just looked at the bread and thought 'meh, not interested'! I had a chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms, salami and cheese, which he wanted half of but I refused to share my 'stupid diet' food with him! LOL!
I must admit to nearly giving in last night and having a Bounty... I was looking at it thinking, 'Well, if I take the chocolate off it's just coconut so it's allowed!' But I knew I was being silly and put it down! I don't even feel like chocolate today, what a miracle!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Well done Birdie!
Coconut isn't allowed per se. You can have small amounts of coconut milk/cream, but not dessicated (ie sweetened) coconut bound in sugar syrup and chocolate!
It just gets better from here. You're doing so well!
And apparently the IPD is only £2.99 on Play.com right now0 -

Omega-6 / omega-3 ratio
The link I posted earlier showing omega 3 helped satiety used 1.5g of omega 3 daily, the equivalent of 3 highly concentrated fish oil capsules or 5 standard capsules daily. Dr Davis suggests six daily. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
