Hmmm considering this is supposed to be the easiest diet to lose weight on there seems to be a fair few of us not actually shifting the pounds and the only conclusion I can come to is that we are doing something wrong.

The workings of this diet are fairly simple so it cant be hard to find out what it is.Either we are eating too little or too much, too many carbs, not enough fat or too much fat

So I'm going to start by eating more because to be totally honest I cant eat less.

  • Hi Guys!
Please can I join you? I`ve been trawling through yr thread (phew) for a bit and would love a bit of encouragement and info.....
Story so far; Done Atkins in the past, lost weight, put it back on.Now heavier than ever and need to lose 2stone at least. Been low carbing for 3 wks, but it`s so slow.Is it true that it gets harder everytime you do it?Does caffeine really make that much difference? I`ve got down to 1coffee and 2 teas (cream in coffee, splash of milk in tea) but I hate green tea and find the fruit ones make my tum feel acid-y.
I find I`m better off without bread, as I have a wheat intolerance and resulting IBS.However, my main craving is buttered toast.......But I AM DETERMINED this time to stick to the diet.
Any thoughts on exercise? The Old Man tried to diet with me but he`s a fitness fanatic, albeit a chunky one and said he had no energy, felt ill on it and went back to porridge breakfasts and tons of fruit.....I feel like we need a 2nd fridge now,His an Hers!
I keep getting the Atkins headache, but do I up the carbs, fat or protein? Anyone else get it?
Sorry to hear , now I`ve got to the sharp end of the thread, that some of you have Stuck with weight loss. Is it really the water that comes off first, and the fat is just as slow as any other diet?
    Looking fwd to yr replies.

My OH is a runner, and really struggled when low carbing. So on days he's running he has carbs, and other days he low carbs ;)

Personally, I like to know what the rules are with the diet and stick to them. I'm happy losing 1-2lbs a week - anything faster is unsustainable in my opinion

With the headache, that's because you are still having caffeine, i expect. Up your water, and your fat and you should get through it. Replace caffeinated drinks with decaff ones and see if that makes it better. ;)

Milk is extremely high in carbs - try ditching it.

    Are you taking vitamins?

Exercise will help the weight come off. I manage about 30 mins of walking a day - if I do less, my weightloss slows.

    Good luck though, and welcome!

Well, I only take a probiotic multivitamin and 1 omega3 if I`m not having fish that day.I used to take loads of different ones including glucosamine and gingko biloba, but then I got more or less scared off by stories in the press about liver damage and betacarotene causing gawd knows what etc. I know it sells papers, but I don`t know who to trust with supplements and vits anymore. There is so much misinformation about.
    What do you recommend?
I get out and walk a couple of miles a day, but I`m used to it, so I don`t think that counts as weightlosing exercise.

I've posted the list of supplements I take (and the reasons why).

I'd recommend you choose a low carb diet to follow and then take some time reading up on what you need to do. You have to understand how the diet works, and what is and isn't allowed ;)

I feel myself on the edge of slipping off this diet.
I am keeping my carbs low but the meat etc is making me want to eat more and more rather than less. It's like here's the keys to the hareem but only have a kiss......I can't do it.

I think a normal calorie controlled diet to get the weight off...and then Atkins to stay there may suit me better. I will try to stick with it until my holiday....but I will make a decision afterwards. I can lose 3-4lb every week for months on a conventional diet....I've done it before. It's the lack of loss that is making me eat more. Demoralised so I'm eating. It's all low or zero carb but that means I don't lose or gain.

Why are you limiting food, Gillette?

You need to keep your calorie and fat intake quite high, and your carbs low.

Otherwise your body will think it's being starved and will stop burning fuel.

Had coffee for breakfast as went shopping with DD(19).

Had lunch at Nandos - chicken and a side dish of ratatouille- managed to avoid fries and coleslaw so proud of myself.

For tea had some cold chicken and sliced tomato.

Found it difficult when we went to the cinema as it seemed odd not to have popcorn etc but sat there with a large coffee instead.
