at the risk of repeating myself those who have barely lost, have u lost inches and not pounds?? also post menus along with the plan then we can comment on what u are eating maybe u arent sticking to it as much as u think etc etc... its hard to guess why someone isnt losing or is gaining unless we can see what u are eating/drinking

I'm baaaaack! After a weekend of pure indulgence. As usual when I go away to stay with friends, the diet took a back seat
Friday
- lunch at a veggie restaurant - salads, tofu, halloumi, good stuff, then CHOCOLATE CAKE (well I couldn't let the birthday girl eat it on her own)
- Homemade pizza, vodka with soda water then LOADSA CHAMPAGNE
Saturday
- baaaaad hangover, orange juice (I was told the citric acid was an antidote to some "herbal highs" we'd taken), cheesy pastry, cheesy bready things and cheesy pizza
So today I'm back home and my chickens have been little stars in their nestbox so I've got plenty of eggs to eat, as well as the green tea and nut roasts that I got from Approved Foods, and some lovely fresh spinach.
I also got a funky new hairdo (have just really impressed the lodger!) so I'm feeling good - even did some clothes shopping on the way home and resisted a Karen Millen dress that would have been amazing for my first day of work tomorrowbut would have cost me £140

BL - Glad you had a fab time:). Can I ask how many eggs you get off your 3 chickens a day/week? I have been considering a couple for the garden;)If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.

Hia Newish! In the good weather, they normally lay an egg each every day. Because my girls are ex-battery, they don't know they're supposed to break from laying over the winter  but they did drop down a fair bit in the snowy weather.
I guess on average I get a total 10-14 eggs a week from three girls. And I spend £7.50 on a bag of feed every 2 months (they also get food scavenged from the garden, plus our own kitchen leftovers)
So I came back after 36 hours away to find 4 eggs waiting for me, woohoo!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Oh, and I should add - they're always large eggs (I was shocked when I saw how small the "medium" ones are in the supermarket) - you can't always close a standard eggbox with my eggs in it, because some are just too long - and there generally seems to be a much higher proportion of yolk.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

Wow, that sounds fab!!!
I only buy free range eggs and they cost a fortune:(. I have 3 just for breakfast nevermind the rest of the day:rolleyes:
I also like the idea of giving a little freedom to some poor battery hens;)
Next questions, are they very noisy and are they smelly?? (thinking of funny neighbours):rolleyes:If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.

Heheh - their house always smells like a farm, no surprises! I originally had them in my brick outhouse so they couldn't be any bother, although I did also check my neighbours were OK with it beforehand out of politeness... I've only got a little terraced garden and they're absolutely fine.
They generally don't make any noise unless they want something - so they might have a bit of a "bok-bok-bok" when they wake up in the morning (good hour or so after sunrise), or if they think I'm coming out to feed them, but the majority of the day is silent. The occasional burst of noise (once a fortnight if that) is if they've been spooked - e.g. flown into next door's garden only to find a dalmation, or got a plastic bag trapped round her foot so she thinks she's being chased! :rotfl: Of course, they don't "crow" like a cockeral would, and they sleep all night.
Very easy to rescue them as well - if you're genuinely interested take a look at http://hilarycarlen.ipower.com/3601.html and to ask any questions you can find me hovering on http://www.downthelane.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=8&sid=dfe65296b69c80a656aba15656e0b456Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

I've just jumped into this thread after reading the header and a few messages, so sorry if this is a bit random but:-
1. The Atkins Diet has been shown by a number of documentaries and research, to just be 'a low calorie diet', like most others. Meat and dairy products are much more 'filling' than other forms of food. Therefore you may be eating food with a higher-fat content, but your more full throughout the day, and therefore snack less. But, unlike traditional 'salad' diets, your not getting enough vital vitamins and minerals (taking vitamin tablets won't cut it, as most get urinated out).
2. What you eat doesn't appear to make you fatter quickly, but over a period of time. i.e. a number of people who went to weight-watchers with food diary's were weighed, and it was noted that on weeks when they ate significantly more, the extra weigh gain was measured the following week and not the week of consumption.
3. It actually takes calories and therefore energy to eat food!! (Example: - When our forces entered the Jewish concentration camps at the end of the 2nd World War, they naturally felt sorry for the people there. So they gave them their rations. But the Jews had so little energy left it their bodies to actually process and digest the food, that most of them that ate the rations dropped dead within minutes.).
It's believed that it takes time for the stomach to 'wind down' after starting the digestive process. Somewhere between 10 to 20 minutes. During this time, even though the stomach is empty of food, calories are being consumed as the body is still working. So the theory goes, that if you eat a small portion of something, with less calories than the body consumes within the 10 to 20 minute wind-down period, then you'll loose weight. Have you ever noticed how most skinny people seem to be constantly eating? Annoying isn't it! Most people who are skinny, tend to eat small amounts of food through-out the day. Little and often is the key.
Your thought please :-)
Andy
Okay this is the second time this week that someone has come in to say we are all getting it wrong.
1. Why?
2. You know NONE of us... why do you care?
3. On what basis do you decide we are actually killing ourselves? May I suggest you read the highly informative books by Gary Taubes.
Might I suggest you have it all wrong and we have it all right? How does that feel?
Seriously... it really is unfair when we are slimming down, feeling the healthiest we have ever been, diabetics are becoming non diabetics and quite frankly we have direct experience of (personally) Slimfast, Cambridge Diet, VLCD, Low fat, slimming world, weight watchers and a variety of diet pills. With NO desirable effects.
I have never been so healthy and comfortable in my shrinking skin so will you just bogof and I don't mean the usual MSE meaning!
Right.... that is me... I am going to carry on and cook my roast dinner. Big delicious bit of beef with spring cabbage. Might even repeat last weeks blueberry eton mess... that was organic (adjust spelling as appropriate!) :rotfl:0 -

Only thing I'm worried about is I'm still really tired and have really tired heavy legs, does anyone know how long this will last as I know its to be expected but thought I would have come through it by now?
I cant believe you've posted that, i was just coming on to say got lots to do but not doing it as i feel shattered, my legs are like lead, not had this so far but if it means i'm losing weight will put up with it:rotfl: just wish i had some energy.
Am really disheartened about not losing so think the 4lbs so far is prob just fluid.
Had lunch and used 1/4 pkt of schwartz roast chicken gravy (as found here on a link and by far the lowest) and was lovely, only 6.1g carbs for whole pack so only had 1.5g is a life saver.
will post menus from now on.
B-small piece mexican fudge, coffee with cream
L-chicken, broccoli, sprouts, couple pieces carrot tbspn peas, gravy
D-post later
Having few glasses of wine as feeling down and i need it.
Have also bought guernsey creamy milk, virtually same carbs in them all but being creamy will need less, had none so far tho. Dont normally have peas/carrots just today as feel crappy and wanted them. By the way my ketostix been quite dark so expected a loss, altho i know thats not guaranteed.
feel like a nap now so might indulge:rolleyes:0
