In danger of being thick here, what's vlcd?

Did you regain the weight lost when you got better? When ever I've lost a lot by not eating for emotional reasons it hasn't come back for ages. Wondering if it is similar.

    M

It took me quite a while to regain too.

    very low cal diet

Yes, of course. I didn't mean to imply that husband leaving etc would not be emotional. Quite the reverse.

I just think, for what it's worth , and in my experience, that 'starvation mode' is a myth: that if you don't eat enough, you will lose weight.

Mercy, VLCD is Very Low Calorie Diet. And I'm with you on your 20-stone friend. I'll lock him in my spare bedroom and feed him either 1500 cals per day or a LC diet, and we'll see if he can't lose weight...

It is an odd one. There were no overweight people of the millions in the concentration camps either but, I couldnt lose weight for the first seven weeks and i was very strict, but as i said after that, fell off on virtually a daily basis.

I know this was posted quite some time ago but the link doesn't take you to where it should anymore. Does anyone have this recipe to hand - wanted to make it for tonights tea. I have found another one but its in american measurements and used 1 cup riced cauli and 1 cup of mozarella and I'm not sure what these are in English measurements. Can anyone help please???

ooh how weird not sure why it doesnt go to right place... the measurements for the pizza are done by volume so u need to use cups, if u dont have cup measures u can buy them cheap but check yr measuring jug or just use an ordinary cup

mercy i gained back abut a stone but then again i looked bloody awful so needed to but even now i am not back to what i was before i was ill, course it got me used to being 10something whereas before i was quite happy at nearly 12 <sigh>

my illness was not emotional it was physcial tho the possibility of dying does have an emotional affect lol (sorry i know not funny but is my way of dealing)

I think my friend would enjoy the attention :rotfl: I see your point about vlcd working, it surely must even if it takes time to kick in. Maybe 'starvation mode' if it exists, can only last just so long?

Off for a day's shopping in Chorley, aiming to make sensible choices for lunch and taking some of the 'fudge' as it is very nice and filling. Less likely to eat rubbish if I have something tasty in my bag. Well thats the theory :D

    Have a good day all!

Oh this conversation is just a wee bit too weird for me this morning. I was coming on here to query with you lot about the very same topic.

I lost 5 lbs last week but it wasn't through careful eating, it was through sheer loss of appetite because I had some problems and spent days upset and not able to eat. The problems are being worked on and I'm trying to get back to 'normality' but I haven't been eating normally and if anything, I'm only eating around 700 calories a day on a good day and certainly no more than around 7 or 8 grms of carb a day. Since my 5 lbs loss last week, I've put 1lb on, yet I'm hardly eating. I have something like a small salad and I end up nibbling on one packet of peanuts throughout the day and that's it.

I'm going to try to be more balanced today and I've had bacon egg and sausage for breakfast and I'll eat something at lunch. I'm slightly worried that even although I'm still sticking to the 20g of carb a day....I'll still put more on simply because I'll be eating more than what I did last week iyswim? The last thing I need right now is to have even more problems with my weight.

  • Well my dear hubby always says: You never saw anyone fat come out of a Belson camp! True indeed! He also says-lock them in a cell and put them on a diet and they will lose weight-that they eat more than they claim secretly. Now-he is right I think but re starvation mode I do believe in it-however-once those resources have gone-however long that takes-a few weeks I suspect-you will be bound to lose weight.
Darned if I would ever try it though!
Darn weight too! Now I know that on LC Ive not had a huge amount of calories this week yet Im back to 12.2. Annoying but Im just gonna keep at it-in the belief it will suddenly fall again. Our bodies are more complex than we appreciate! If I changed to a standard LC I bet Id put on all the weight I lost so unless it continues to creep back more for no reason I shall stick with Atkins. Still on induction-not even introduced new foods. However-now looking at reducing the cream and cheese. If I dont see a result next week I may be somewhat disillusioned though!
Some people claim that going back to eating carbs again for a week and then starting induction kicks it back into place. I dunno. Time will tell.

Beware of advice! I've eliminated some of the gabled English from the Gooletranslate version of this article from a Swedish newspaper.

Recently met an old friend who after many years fighting against his obesity by eating a low fat diet, decided just over a year ago that because he was so fat and in such poor shape, he must go to doctor but all when tested all the test values proved to be disastrous!

So he then decided he should at least enjoy life the short time he had left by eating the fatty foods he liked. He began to eat butter, cream, pork, eggs and other foods the Food Standards agency and most doctors warn against.

My wife and I began to eat in the same way a few weeks ago. We ignore now in the Social Welfare Boards, four to six slices of bread daily and now eat no bread at all. Potatoes, rice and pasta, we also stopped buying. Instead, we revel in meat and pork, eggs, fish, butter and cream, and fatty sauces. It is amazingly good!

But you may of course expect some side effects. For our part, we have lost a certain amount of weight, the stomach is working perfectly, nails have become hard and without cracks, the hair has become thicker and we sleep better. My wife suddenly can also bend her hands so that her fingertips touch the palm of your hand - something she has not be able to do for years, and I lost my previous frequent heartburn. But we eat so good that we are prepared to take these consequences of our gluttony.

How it went for my friend? Well, after less than a year, he had lost 35 kilograms in weight, and his doctor found shocked after a re-examination: Boy, you have values that a 20-year-old!

That is: Whatever you do, don't listen to Annika Dalhlqvist or the others who defend her ideas (called LCHF-diet - high in fat and low in carbohydrates), but continue to eat low fat under the Food Administration's recommendations!

Otherwise, you could end up like my friend. Furthermore, you, if you follow her strange advice, you may never suffer from diabetes or heart attack. Terrible idea!

In addition, there are some indications that the low fat diet (as recommended by the Food Administration also to small children!) Gives us such exciting kids - with concentration disorders, aggression, ADHD and other interesting neuropsychiatric problems.

No, it is probably safest to follow the Food Administration's recommendations.

If we all would start to eat more fat, and have diabetes and obesity epidemic halted, and how it would look like!

What would, for example, we do with all the tax money is used for diabetic care, coronary and obesity surgery?

We might be forced to return to a reasonable staffing in hospitals and schools - perhaps even on older homes, so that staff there could socialize more with the old and perhaps take them out sometime!

No, it should not happen. Continue to eat low fat soft margarine and skimmed milk, and avoid saturated fats like butter and pork!
