Hi everyone! This is a really good thread, you're all doing so well! It has opened my eyes to a low-carb diet! Like many, I just assumed that low-carb meant loads of meat and cream but it looks like a very good varied diet to have!

I'm going to buy the Idiot Proof Diet book tomorrow and read it cover to cover twice so I understand it then I'll be starting as soon as I can get stocked up on the right foods! I've been looking at the recipes on pig2twig (thanks for the link!) and I've found loads of yummy looking recipes I want to try, I just need to understand the phases so I know what to eat when!

I want to lose about a stone but my Mum wants to lose about 3st and I think that it'll be good for her to check this diet out and if we're doing it together we may find it easier.

Really looking forward to starting this!

Yay!!!! Hi Birdie!!! Welcome to the IPD.

Phase 1 is the induction - it's hardcore for at least 2 weeks. You're meant to keep with it until you're within a stone of your target weight, so your mum will probably have to say on that bit a bit longer than you.

    Phase 2 is slightly easier.

And Phase 3 is maintenance, so you move onto that when you're at your target/ideal weight.

I've been on Phase 1 for 6 months now, and I find it a great way of life.

I'll be your buddy if you need one.

Had a day at the seaside with DD(14) and managed to keep to the eating plan so pleased with myself.

DD thinks the trousers I bought four days ago are looking too big for me so fingers crossed things are workng for me.

If anyone remembers my distress a few days ago when DH made a couple of "remarks" then they may appreciate how I felt this morning when DH asked me to look for a new pair of trousers for him while I was out.

I asked if he wanted his normal size and he said he thought he was a size up and insisted I measure his waist with a tape measure.

I did as he asked and he is four inches up!! I must have looked surprised as he began to very defensively say I could not expect him to be the same size waist at his age as he was in his twenties!!!

Revenge really is sweet and I did not even have to say anything!;)

Elona - that's brilliant. I wore a pair of trousers to work last week that fitted me perfectly. I wore them on Monday this week and they were too big. I had to switch to the trousers a size smaller on Tuesday

The clothes are costing me a fortune now! I'm getting about 3 wears out of each thing. I'm thinking of buying a little mini sewing machine so that I can take clothes in rather than replacing them all the time

Thanks for that tinkerbell! You've done very well with your weight loss, I hope that this will become a way of life for me too, I'm really hoping to have more energy as some people have mentioned!

That's very kind of you to offer to be my buddy! Once I start I will plague you with questions to make you regret offering! I've already copied your recipes, looking forward to breakfast muffins!

I'm sooooo glad you got revenge on your hubby elona! I have been reading this thread on and off for 3 days (I like to read a whole thread before joining!) and I couldn't believe how insensitive he was! They always come up with excuses when the shoe's on the other foot though, don't they?!

    Hi all,
I've jumped on the Doktor Dahlqvist bandwagon - lost 5lb in the first week, now on week 2. My DD is home from Uni for 4 weeks so she has joined me.

We're finding the diet is great, both of us were carb fiends, but we're not missing them at all. Some days I'm so full after a late breakfast, I really don't want to eat at all until early evening.

I must admit I have a couple of coffees during the day (just one or two) because I can't face the caffeine withdrawal, and I have a spoonful of sugar in it. I also have one piece of fruit a day as well as tomatoes (every other day) to try and attain my 5-a-day. It may be a variation to "the plan" but if I'm loosing weight, I don't care!

One side effect is that sweet things taste unbearably sweet. I had liver in onion gravy tonight and the gravy was foul - when I looked at the ingredients, they included brown sugar and glucose syrup WHY?? So I just picked the liver out and had it with steamed veg.
