Hi peeps, man, you've all been busy bees, only just caught up! :j
Big respect to you all that've lost, still bumbling along in a general low-carb way, at my end. In fact, think I've put on, feel like a water-logged marshmallow, to be precise! Think it's a sluggish lymphatic system due to being a lazy ar!e :o
Was even thinking of eating a few more carbs and moving into the "moderate" catagory. This is due to the last week where I've felt really light-headed and "spacey" and generally like I'm on a different planet.
It's been a problem at work cos, with me being new and having lots to learn, I need to concentrate big-time. A patient came from theatre, all hooked up with various monitors, leads and lines and a colleague was explaining to me what to do whilst having me do it and I just felt like I was in a dream, on the outside looking in. Then I had to go into the anaesthetic room to find a Dr for something and I thought I was gonna faint cos the floor is all swirly!!
Has anyone else experienced any similar weirdness? I'm not going hungry and am sleeping fine. Thought maybe eat more carbs at breakfast (currently eating flax porridge-2g carbs/100g) and after fasting whilst asleep all them hours, maybe my blood sugar is in need of elevating more.
Anyhow, can't afford a lapse in concentration, not with poorly patients relying on me.
Kissit- loving your enthusiasm for Atkins, can you pass some of it my way? :D:D
Daisy- same boat as you, totally. Who'd of thought dropping 7lbs could be so hard?

pilly what u are describing sounds like 'atkins flu'... often people (particularly if they were big carb eaters before) get sort of fluey yukky symptoms and headaches or woolly heads on days 3-5.. it does pass if u stick with it honest

If I'd been on a ward, there's dip sticks galore (to test patient's urine) and would've checked for ketones, but don't have them where I work.
Also, I've been asked to be Diabetes Link Nurse for my area!! Haha, will have to go back and search this site for all the fab info provided and use the more "scientific" data. Will need to look at recent research, liase with the diabetes specialist nurse and keep everyone up-dated in my area, I even have to do a display board when my turn comes around! What a perfect opportunity to sing the praises of a low-carb lifestyle.:j
So Ted, big thanks for all your many links (just clocked the recent ones) on the low-carb/diabetic front, and I'm grateful to anyone else who posts/posted about this subject. As we know, it's very topical and relevant at the moment. I feel a Gary Taubes reference coming on in the near future!:rotfl:

i have been thinking - du du duhhhhhh......

and i have come to the conclusion that the reason i find it so hard to be quite so evangelical - and stop sabotaging myself in the process - is that i dont really get any unpleasant side effects if i over indulge in the carbs
many of you have mentioned how tired bloated and generally yukky you get so its a no brainer not to eat the crisps milk choccie and cakes etc etc but if i do all i get is a big round belly that looks about 6 months preggers

some nasty side effects would be welcome - but my new policy of ''embracing the positive - size 10/12 flat tummy curvy womanly shape nice rack - and not ''focusing on the negitive'' - that other half a sodding stone bulgy upper abs flabby triceps is going ok
i am in the best shape ive been in since i was 16 i reckon so i want to focus on that and not let the other stuff bring me down - if im feeling positive it might rub of my on sabotaging efforts !!

once more helo to all new posters and welcome to our merry band :)

Has it worked? If so, thanks Mazzers. Didn't clock the save bit!

Just checked out the fit Swede, Jonas and read the article. Is he really, in the comical mixed-up translation, saying he has Red Bull? But he's slating porridge? hmmm

    Hi All,

I suppose I'm correct in thinking that we all originally ended up at MSE for some sort of financial advice, and then discovered all the other benefits the site has to offer. Well, that's what happened to me!

What I'm finding with the Atkins diet is it's more expensive than my 'old' diet. All the meat, fish and eggs I need to keep me going coupled with my decision to buy ethically farmed items and those that aren't pumped full of cr*p (preservatives, water, sugar, ...), is proving a bit of a hit on the budget. My veggies and salads costs are still much the same.

Does anyone else find this, or is it just because it's the induction period?

    Cheers!

Hi, I agree it's costing me a fortune - but I hope it's worth it! I am doing the Idiot Proof diet and I started out by buying the vitamins and supplements that was nearly £30!! My fridge is full of meat, cheese and green veg and there are no cheap evening meals of jacket potatoes or pasta and sauce. I am now on day 5 not going to weigh myself till day 7, if I haven't lost weight I am going to sit down and cry!

You are very welcome to use any material I have put online. Because I post in several forums (from which I have not yet been banned;) ) I've got in the habit of Posting in one forum Then going to the Quote option then cutting the whole text of that post including the links and the image formatting, then pasteing that complete post into the next forum and altering it to suit the new context.

I'm sure you appreciate how long it takes to prepare a post. If it gets used more than once it works out better use of my time. To be honest I'd rather you didn't attribute to me as that may get you also in their bad books for appearing help me try to get round their ban.

We wouldn't want people to think Type one incidence may possibly be reduced  and the idea that people use a low carb diet to reduce the use of medication is frankly shocking.
